Warpspeed Y-Pipe is on. Impressions.

Ordered my Warpspeed Y-pipe about three weeks ago, it arrived last Friday, just under three weeks. But shipping times can vary depending on what they have in stock. It took me several tries over two days to get through to place the order, but I finally got thru and talked to Dallas. I ordered the mandrel Bent Aluminized Y because I am broke , but I understand they push the Aluminized Y. For $225 it seems like a great deal.

Install took a total of about three hours, most of the first hour was spent trying to get the nuts off the cat. I read several different write ups and they covered pretty much everything (As Cheston says 'Prepare to heave your way to a few new briuses'-- I wonder what he means by that ... now I know ) I would definatly recommend having a torch on hand, that is the only way the nuts were coming off my Cat. A cheap torch and tank should be less than $20. I would also recomend a breaker bar for your sockets, mine was only a couple inches longer than my regular rachet handle but it made a big difference when I had to break those nuts loose.

The Pipe fit like a Glove (Did you hear the one about the guy with five dic.....never mind), and quality seems good. I was only able to take a short test ride and did not have a chance to get on the highway. The exhast seems slightly louder outside the car and it makes kind of a burbuling noise if I rev the engine and let off, but I never listened to the car that closely from the outside before I put the Y-pipe on. Inside noise levels seem about the same, and there are no objectionable noises of any kind, no buzzing, hissing, rattling, banging, etc.

I was not able to push the car on my short test ride but the power gain seems to be huge. I haven't reset the ECU, so the gains should only improve as the ECU learns new settings. I look forward to pushing the car a little more tomorrow. I would recommend the Warpspeed Y-Pipe to anyone who wants more power from their Maxima.

i just got off the phone with their order line a few minutes ago. i too ordered the aluminized Y-pipe. i hope i get it soon. anyway, i hear a lot about "reseting" the ECU. what's that all about? i'm sure there are a bunch of threads out there about it, but sometimes the search function spits out a bunch of useless threads. do any of you know a good thread about the ECU and what to do? oh and another question. do i have to "reset" the ECU everytime i put a performance part on my car (ex. PR CAI)? thanx.

I disconected the wire for the front O2 sensor from in front of the engine and disconected the wire all the way down, then removed it after I removed the Y pipe from the car. The rear o2 sensor I unscrewed from the Y pipe before I removed the y pipe from the car. The wires on the rear o2 sensor get all wound up as you remove it, I just pushed it aside with the wires 'wound up', then when I screwed it in the wires were straight again. I looked at many write ups, but this one has some good pics and is one of the best --> http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ypipeinstall.html

Like anything else there are mixed opinions, but I think if you reset the ECU it will learn its new setting faster than if it has to 'unlearn' the old settings, then learn the new ones. There is also a switch on the ECU that you turn with a small screwdriver to reset it. But the switch is very delicate and not made for multiple resetings. I read in one thread that disconnecting the battery would not reset the ECU, but I do not know if that is fact or just one persons opinion.

I don't think I am going to bother resetting the ECU, but I will probably adding an intake and the Warpspeed B-pipe fix soon and I will probably reset the ECU after I add those Mods.

so let's say i install the cai and ypipe and don't reset the ecu. will it eventually learn it's new settings and everything will be a-okay? or will i have to reset the ecu after installing a few mods?

Trust me..it won't be loud at all. NO ONE will notice it except you. It will be deep as all our exhausts basically are becuase we have a pretty big engine. If you think it is loud and rumbly you are either A) A woman or B)Havent heard a muscle car before.

My mechanic said my WSP Aluminized Mandrel Y looked of good quality, but the universal flange SUCKED.

Anyways we put my catback duals on first, then the Y-pipe...the Y increased the sound significanlty, but alone it won't do much at all.

I feel maybe a slight lag off the line but right after I can feel my exhaust just pulling me. It's not a HUGE difference becuase no bolt on is huge, but it is significant.

Since your guys' pipes are aluminum, they will rust over time, correct? So why don't you guys get a high temp engine paint (clear coat) and coat the hell out of it to keep it from rusting over time? Just a thought.

dafro and I installed his Y today. Everything went good, it took like 2.5 hours. I should be installing my very own WSP Y soon, and it shouldn't take so long since I know what to expect. I ordered my Y on the first and it still has not shown up. I am not even sure if they have taken the money out of my account yet.

Shipping for me was only $15.

Correct.

Incorrect.

If the ECU threaded reset switch is used properly, there's no reason you can't reset it as many times as you like. A light touch is the key. Turn the screwdriver lightly until you feel the threads hit the "stop" and do just that: STOP!

We use the universal rear flange because it helps with the different hole spacing on the different size converters and we flat flare it as not all the converter flanges have been known to line up.

We have finally been getting caught up a bit due to an abundancy of orders so we are shipping a bit faster.

I know 4-7 day shipping to Germany is about $120, Saudia Arabia is about $140, Canada runs about $28-40, we have shipped to Mexico, Singapore, Ireland, Scotland, England, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, the Dominican Republic and a few more plus all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

With Dan fishing in Panama the last 2 weeks I am now told we will be shipping there as well. I am not sure how much selling one can do while fishing but that is what he said anyway.

You should give Dallas and Lynne a break. He said he is finally getting caught up, and Dan has been in Panama for the past 2 weeks. I'm sure your calls will be returned when possible.

I ordered one around the 19th last month and I got it under 3 weeks and I just installed it this past Monday and man, this y-pipe (aluminized) was worth every penny. I only have a pop-charger and a universal muffler welded on to my fatcory b-pipe (just for looks & sound) and I didn't think my Max was gonna pull this hard. My first couple minutes on the highway I got tempted to race a modded 2000 1.8T GTI and I ended up pulling on him which I was surprised because I used to get smacked around by them. I did have a muffler shop do the install for an even $100 since I didn't have a torch to remove the bolts off the cat. They like the quality of the y-pipe as well. It didn't make my exhaust any louder, just deeper and more like a growl of a muscle car. I did happen to notice that I hear my exhaust way up in the 5K rpms where all I would hear was my intake. I didn't know about manually resetting my ECU, so I guess I'll happen to do that tomorrow. All I can say is, I should've gotten this a long time ago. I recommend this y-pipe for those who are shopping for one.

Really. The lady who took the calls said she was waiting for him to call in and get his messages and he would get back to me soon.

ITS BEEN A WEEK.

Give who a break? I'm not asking him for any limbs here, just a fone call as a courtesy to a customer.

I can't believe these exhaust bolts. My $hit was so rusted I had to cut the cat studs and drill them out. Its time for a new cat and cat-back.
Other than that, its f****** great. I have been driving around for a while and it pulls. $2500 for a turbo kit sounds very, very good right now. ahhh, I have the mod bug.

I recomend WSP, good people and good product.

I would go to an independent shop. Half the time those chain shops will try to pull a fast one. That goes for brake shops too.
Look in your phone book for a shop in your area.

I don't know if I can't drive a 5speed right or not. If you look at the mod difference(dafro-Greddy cat-back, RT cat, WSP Y, CAI, 99GXE(I don't know if there is a weight difference)) vs. 97 SE loaded with only a Autozone cone filter(APC). I also noticed that I had almost a full tank of gas and Ryan had like a quarter of a tank. I am not saying I don't suck at driving 5spd, but we only ran once from a dead stop, and once from a 40 mph roll. I had the roll in the bag. I bet if we had the same mods, I would have won for sure.

Ditto, I have the WSP Alumnized Y and a pop charger. The y gave my exhaust and intake a deeper tone. I have a stock exhaust and I love the sound.

You should have won for sure anyway. And when you are modded you should SMOKE him. I don't suppose you can tell me what you or Ryan is running in the 1/4?? I really don't think he will hit 14.9's with it or 15.0's, and that is what you shoud be running??

We don't know what we run in the 1/4. I think there will be a track meet coming up pretty soon though, so I will find out before summer.

I also I got to ride in Nigel's turboed max today. I have video, so I need somewhere to host it to show everyone.
