does anyone know how to stop the front brakes from squiking? they are very loud and i have tried some different things but to no prevail. please give me some suggestions.

i have the same problem. although i hear a squeak sometimes without pressing the brake. my pads are 90% still there, do i need shaved rotors?

Cheap brake pads often squeak. Even my old OEM pads squeaked for a while, but they eventually quit. I found that my new cheap pads, squeak the worst when they are cold. Getting up to speed and then stomping the break generally heats them up and makes 'em quiet for a while.

Each break pad had it's own personality. Between two seemingly identical pads, one could squeal like a dirty ho and the other could be completely silent. Or one might squeal when it's cold, while the other squeaks all the time. You just have to deal with it.

Supposedly, ceramic pads don't make any noise, but I have heard some people say they had ones that do. So in summary, cheap pads will probably squeal a lot, OEM pads generally won't squeal much, anything else may or may not squeal depending on it's personality. There is no surefire way to eliminate all squeaking.

resurface the rotors the next time you change your pads. Even if the pads are cheap, it'll get rid of the noise most of the time.

I also had the same problem. When it came time to change brake pads on my wife's Maxima last year, I bought the highest quality pads (front & rear) from an auto parts dealer. I decided to buy OEM, and also the softest pads possible -- I can live with the brake dust! Regardless, the front pads squeeled like crazy. I tried installing new shims, I put on anti-squeel compound, but nothing helped. That squeel is bearable with the radio on and windows up, but with windows down, it's really loud and very annoying. I eventually bought the dealer's pads, replaced them about 2 months ago, and problem solved. I mentioned this to my mechanic and he said that for some reason, some cars do not take aftermarket brake pads very well, and to go with the dealer OEM. Unless of course you decide to buy an aftermarket rotor/pad kit -- I've never done that, so I couldn't tell you the results.

My current OEM pads are squealing.

I put new blank rotors and porterfield pads on my last car and they never made any noise, but they did dust like hell. Regardless, that's the setup that I'm going to use on this car as well.

I usually had slight brake squeal when tapping brakes going downhill...after putting on 17's & suspension, no squeal! What's up with that?
