Ignition system

Hi,

Is there any difference with the fourth gen maxima with direct ignition versus third generation max with the distributor systems ?

Are there any pros and cons with either of these systems?

Thanks

Dude, there's a lot of difference! I don't know an awful lot about the third gens but distributors in general are less reliable, with contacts, points that wear out. Direct fire gives more precise control of firing of cylinders, the coil packs have more time to charge and give a much higher voltage and cleaner burn. You don't have to worry about HT leads wearing out also. The only bad thing about direct fire NDIS in our cars is that you can't easily control the timing for retarding or advancing it which sucks if you run boost.

This is just a very brief comparison, there are more.
