Oh my god, these things are SO annoying. Anyone know a good way to remove em? The manual says you undo the screw under the hood, and then pry it out with a screwdriver. Unless I want a set of matching, broken/cracked lights, this ain't gonna happen. Advice?

Clearence lights -- the ones beside the headlights.. not the turn signal ones or fog lights.

Why are they annoying? They are meant to come one whenen you don't have the head lights on. Anyways, you can probably jsut take out the bulbs without taking out the whole thing.

Oh oh oh, I'm not trying to disable them, I'm just trying to get em to be brighter so they match my headlights a little better (yeah yeah, I've heard the whole bla-bla-it'll-blind-other-drivers. 8w matched with a 100w looks like ***).

They're annoying as hell cause I can't remove em without busting em.

.......

I was under the impression you could swap the wires on the 97-99 maxima's to make the corner lights brighter. I thought I heard somewhere that you could only do this to 95-96's, and now that I've taken out the corner lights, I see that there's only two wires, a black and a red. All the instructions talk about swapping the black and the black ... So uh, where's the other black wire? =P

I have a 97' like you and this is what I did!

Take the lens out. Remove the bulb from the socket.Take a small flathead srewdriver and pry up on the little black plastic piece while pushing up on the wire in the back(black with the red stripe). This wire is the to work with. The other wire(black) is just a ground and there is no need to mess with it. The wire(black
with red stripe)is soldered to the back of the little black plastic piece. Cut this wire off of where it is soldered to,keep up with the spring so you won't forget it. This wire will be spliced to the other connection. I drilled a hole straight through the other side, through the solder and all and I took apart and old fuse holder, the flat
sides that look like a nail head this is where the contact point of the bulb will be. Drill a hole big enough in the plastic to slide the wire from the fuse holder through
about 18 ga. size. Splice the fuse holder wire with a butt splice to the wire(black with red stripe). Slide everything back into place and you should be set. The bulb
should shine brighter than it did in the beginning. All we are doing is lighting up the high side on this dual filament bulb,by swapping contact points in the socket.

Cool..

Got everything going, the solder has been bugging me though, I'll try the drilling idea like you mentioned. Putting the top of the black flat piece back into the light without ruining the connection of the newly soldered piece is a pain =P.. Thanks for the information though, got my lights out without busting anything =)

Re: Cool..

The soldering part is a bit annoying, just take your time. BTW the easiest way to get the clearence light out is to pry with a flat head screwdrive wrapped in a towel at the BOTTOM of the clearence light.

Ok, lets summarise here:

* you want to blind other drivers
* you dont know that they're called "corner" lights
* you can't get em off even tho we post here like every day how to

and the coup de grace....

{drum roll}

You'll be blinded in the fog now!

{cymbals!}

Good luck with your modded ride!!!

Ahh.

Thanks for the flame, I appreciate it, no really I do.

Unfortunately,

a) I don't see how a 22w bulb could blind ANYONE. I had it hooked up last night, and I actually held it in front of my eyes to see how bright it was. Frankly, it's not much of an improvement.

b) RTFM. The book that came with the freakin car refers to em as "CLEARENCE LIGHTS", so that's what I'm going by.

c) I got them off, I just hate snapping the usual "we-don't-want-it-to-fall-off" garbage like I usually do.

If you guys don't want inexperienced car people in the forum, that's fine. If you want an asswooping, come compete against me in an SPL contest, just don't talk down to me like I don't know something.

*flame off*

Don't use the "SEARCH" funtion, just keep askin' the same 3 Qs over and over. We like it like that! Don't use the terms we use here, either, thats kewl...

None of these posts concern anything to do with removing the clearance lights without breaking them. See:

Post 1 - Rewiring
Post 2 - This isn't even the same light, this is for your front turn signal lights .. Which he ALSO refers to as "corner lights" ..
Post 3 - Clear TAIL lights.
Post 4 - Rewiring
Post 5 - .. Hmm.... Rewiring .. Again, strange.

Your efforts on earning the name Jack-*** instead of JacksMax as getting worse each attempt. Drop it.

-- If someone wants to lock this thread, feel free. I've done my mod, the only thing keeping it going is this guys smartass comments.

eeeert, RU Stoned???

Read the FIRST link AGAIN!
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.phtml?threadid=9841

In it I posted this:

You can do it. You just have to be careful. Remove the screw thats right on top at the corner as you open the hood. Then take a flat blade screwdriver and carefully pry the corner light back. There at the bottom near the front you'll see a post that goes into a hole. That pops out under a fair amount of pressure. Get the screwdriver in there and gently pry it loose. It'll come out with some work.

Whats that look like to you??????????????

Second post: Shows you what a corner light is, and

basic ones are in your owner's manual
screwdriver to pop out, that's all

Maybe a pair of glasses is in order???? As for all the personal threats, yeah, I guess my pointing out your oversights deserves a beating. What---ever!

Yes, lets close this thread. Some heads are far too thick to get anything [and kept quite warm....]

Jack, RU Stupid???

This is gonna go on forever, because I didn't deserve the amount of sarcasm I got from you the first time.

NONE of those initial forums repeat ANY of the >>questions<< I originally asked in the first two messages. Sure, they cover a similar topic (ie, rewiring, removal w/breaking the lenses, etc, etc) or two, so hey. Let's read through every single message on the board next time I have a problem, maybe I'll find an answer from some off-topic gibberish. Next time your tire goes flat, maybe you can go find out how to fix it by looking under clear-tail light installation.

As I stated before, the manual (ie, the little book that refers to the things called "clearance lights") wasn't very specific on how to get the lights off without breaking them. I know this for a fact because I have a friend who had his local mechanic chip one when removing them.

Thanks to your advice I now know how to remove a turn signal/marker light from my maxima without breaking it. Unfortunately, I still don't know how to get my corner lights off. Thanks Jack! *rolls eyes* And while I'm doing that, would you please point out those personal threats in that last message for me? I'm having trouble reading them, being blind and all..... Jackass =P
