Raced a 2001 Accord V6!

My Honda friend owns this brand new 2001 Accord V6 (auto) and an hour ago, he was just dissin' my Maxima that he could smoke it anytime, anywhere with his Honda.
He is bare stock to the bone, and I got Akimoto intake and no name exhaust.
So I said let's take it outside and we went a straight road that stretches about two miles with no traffic (3 am).
From red light we both pulled hard and I was ahead of him for a half car's length for full 10 sec or some. Then he started gaining on me at about 85miles/hour then he was passing me like I had let go of my gas pedal from there.
Damn, I guess the vtech **** is not all hype.
But I told him after the race that I let go of the gas after 10 sec and that's why he was gaining on me.
Anyways, he thinks he lost and now he keeps his mouth shut.

My buddy has that car, i have a 5 speed and PRCAI. When I race him, I usually f*ck him up. They are nice cars, can't compare them to Maximas though.

I dont even see V6 accords at the track!!

I dont see any V6 Accords at the track, I wonder why? Actually I did but I dont know if it was a V6, He only wants to race V4 he doesnt want none of our V6. Not trying to say nothing about that car, because I wanted one, but they dont come in 5 speed so why even bother with a their V6.

Those things have almost the same pull after 80...On the way back from the Johnson Park meet I raced one several times up to 120 and we were almost dead even the way up the power band...I had one person in my car and I did winde up about 1/2 car length in front of him every time we ran

From a low-speed roll or a stop they are far in the rearview. Even with mods. Deezo knows.

Edmunds lists the V6 Accord at 3329 pounds, so that might be ~ 300 pounds heavier. The 4000 number might be the total max weight.

Well ... a 5 spd vs the auto isn't really fair.

Yes from a roll they are toast, high speed depends on your reaction time!

You guys are making the Honda owners' mistake of thinking VTEC is supposed to be a turbo or something. In some cases it provides substantial power gains, but this is reserved for DOHC applications. In the J30A1 (Accord V6) that's not at all true, the reason it uses VTEC is to allow the engine to run on regular gas, get good fuel economy, and still make a decent amount of power. A VQ can do the same (and better), but it needs premium gas. The Accord V6 is just slightly behind a 4th gen auto stock for stock. Don't ask me why the 4th gen is faster, I don't know, it just is.

Is it my Ypipe Perhaps?

I really hate to admit it, but I had my foot on the gas to the bottom.
And the Accord just gained on me and passed me after 85 mils or so...
I just went to the shop and checked under my car and found that the whole Flex section on the Y-pipe has been torn and probably leaking.
Is the torn flex section possibly be the reason for my weak high end speed?

FYI I have a 95 Max with 100k miles on it, but has been maintained really well.

There is something not right here. IF there was any specific speed where you should have walked all over him it should have been up top, after those cars shift out of 3rd gear they are pathetically slow. My friend has one and we were going up a SLIGHT incline going about 100+, and it actually was DECELERATING up the hill with full throttle. Hell, my boy used to have a 3rd gen (VG) and he almost walked him all over the interstate.

What I've heard

VTEC is variable valve timing technology. I've heard that the cam shaft varies between two settings. Which basically controls the valve timing. One for low revs and the other for high revs. It definately aids in the fuel economy. As you all know, one of the improvements for the VQ30DE engine was a microfinished cam shaft giving the Max a silky smooth feeling. I've driven a 4-cyl VTEC Honda Accord and that thing picks up well at low revs, but really lacks pick up in the high revs and high speeds.

But, I'd like to see a stock auto Max go up against a stock auto Accord V6.

my friend had one and it was listed at 3900 pounds and he got into an accident because the car was too heavy and didn't stop .. his previous car was a maxima and he said he would've stopped before he killed a tree if he were in the max .. but hey ... whatever

Accords are NOT that heavy. 3900 lbs would be the max weight of the car with cargo, but I will state here and now, no accord weighs that much without cargo. Not even close.

If your maxima is losing to an accord V6, your car has a problem. The maxima is a faster car stock for stock, and if you are modded and losing, you are losing power somehow.

Yep ... just like my car when I raced an auto Accord V6. Ran him twice, lost twice.

Have video evidence of it too on my site.

Most likely due to my hood being open a little.
