Am I reading this wrong??

I was looking at all the performance mods for the max and I was doing the math for the mods and what the approx HP gains.

Max @ the wheels are usually about 150 bone stock right.
Sooooooo Y- pipe = 15hp gain
New Muffler/exhaust system/B-pipe = 8 hp.
Ram air intake = 8 hp
Variable Intake Manifold 22-25 hp. (when it gets here)

So thats what 203-205 hp to the wheels. That makes it what 270 hp at the engine?

What calculations am I doing wrong . It seems way too high. I was under the impression that the fwd system of a max cant handle that much hp.

If I am correct do I need to do anything else to my car to make sure I dont break anything?

Re: Am I reading this wrong??

The Air a muffler might be 2-3 hp too high. The VI wasn't dynoed on a non-SC car, so it may only prove to be 20hp.

People are dynoing 170-180hp with all the bolt-ons. If the VI puts out 20hp at the wheels, you're looking at 190-200hp, which is fairly close to your estimate. As for it being 270hp at the crank, that's probably a little high too, but not far off.

270hp is what the SC puts on the engine on regular boost, and the engine handles that fine.

So about how high can we go without doing major changes? I doubt I will be putting a SC or a Turbo kit anytime but does this mean that we can keep up with 2K2s?

Estimates have said around 350HP on stock internals.

Sudz,
I tried delving into that VI thread but it was crazy...so what's the scoop on that? Is it ready? Has it been dynoed?

It isn't ready yet have several leads but no one has seem to get there VI on a NA Maxima...but hopefully it isn't far from now...hopefully a week or two from now some of the VI that Roadbeast sent over will be on a NA Max...so we could get some results but so far about finding another supplier there is still some research going on.

I actually found a contact over there. It looks like the price will be $400 - $450 + S&H to the US. I'm just verifying all the parts are correct and looking for a Guinea pig

Mod math doesnt work like that. If an intake claims 7hp and an exhaust claims 5hp...if you put them both on, you wont always get 12hp.

Different mods give different gains in different combos.

I understand that. I was just doing conserative numbers for the mods. I guess the only way to find out is to dyno my car once I get everything done.
