Yeah I know it was very stupid but I was on a deserted highway by the beach(ocean parkway for LI people) and I went through once at the speed limit checking for cops and anything dangerous and them hit 120 on a stretch until I saw traffic on the other side and was too scared it could be a cop so I stopped. I still can't believe how solid the car feels. At about 118 right before I stopped the rpms dropped so I'm assuming that meant it went into 4th gear(auto)? I have a GLE so I know it couldn't have been the limiter. I had overdrive on. BTW, I'm not doing it again for long time because I would probably have to sell my max if I got caught.

 

Generally it's not a good idea to do it anyways. My friend and I used to do this all the time on toll roads. He had a 3rd gen and I have a 4th gen. I had 5 people in the car and hit 115mph, but that was back in high school. I try to limit the speed under 75mph.

the most i hit on the stock ecu is 125 while racing a 99 mustang gt on the fwy at 2am i had him by a fender. 95 maxima auto with cai,stillen y pipe, pulley, and exhaust.

 

just yesterday, 3-21-01, at around 3am, coming home from a friends house, I was racing a new Eclipse Gt. Going into the Elgin Ohare Expressway, we were stopped at a stop light. I knew this guy wanted to race from the begining, cuz at first I was following him at speeds over 80mph. When the light turned green, I took him off the line, and had about a car lengths lead on him. It stayed that way until we caught up with two slow vehicles up ahead. We followed them for about a minute, until i saw my way past the two cars. As soon as I got my chance, I took off like a mad man. At that point, I was at least 3 to 4 cars ahead of him and he was still behind the two cars. So I decided to slow down for him. But as soon as I saw him past the two car and gaining speed, I punched it again, but it was to late, he already had a higher speed than me. So he was ahead of me the rest of the way, and I was topping out at 120mph, damn GXE, neways, and was gaining the lead. Cuz im guessing I was pegged at 120, and he had the better top speed at around 130 or 140. From there I decided to call it quits, and flashed my headlights to tell him it was a good race we had. But what kinda bothers me is that he didn't respond back to tell me that he had a good race. But whatever floats his boat. We both made our exits ramps, he exited Irving Park, and I exited Gary. Sorry for a long post and sorry if its hard to understand.

 

i just have a intake and i wanted to see how fast i can go iwas racing my friends 2001 v6 passat i beat him and he maxes out at about 142 and my car was still going spedo was passed 140 and the rpms were still going me n my friends couldnt believe it

 

ok first off most of u guys are gonna say im really stupid and wish i wasent on the road driving. ok first off i always thought that the gle did have a limiter?? well i have a 96 5speed se. all my friends told me that i had one and i would prolly top out at bout 119. well bout 2 weeks ago i was on the garden stae parkway (this is what makes it really makes it a dumb move) im comin back from a meet. i was like *** this i shifted into 4th all the way till bout 100 then i shifted into 5th i had my foot to the floor. damn 130, 135, 140 then it went past the 140 mark and i just prolly sht a brick i hit the brakes not to hard and just slowed down. damn let me tell u 140 deff gives u a rush. i dont think ill be ever hitting that ever agian. seriously that was really stupid of me to do and even more stupid on the garden state parkway. but thats my 2 cents

 

Only 120? A couple of us have hit 130 on that stretch. And we were going 130 for a good 5 minutes.

I could have easily hit 130 on the stretch but I didn't have a radar detector amd since I'm 17 with one accident already on my record getting caught would have meant no more max Plus my friends in the car were already yelling at me to stop before I even hit 100.

 

bro im 17 i have a detector and i have 2 accidents and 7 tickets on record i still hit 140. i guess u just gotta be really stupid like me and look like dominic toretto like me. im just sayin

hehehehehehehehe you got me their my damn insurance is 3200 a year thats why i have no money for mods. but what i did just do was take a deffensive driving class and in new york if u take that class which is 40 bucks u get 10% taken off ur insurance. u should see if where u live has it

 

On 95S I raced a brand new Eclipse v6 all the way up to 130 but i kept going to 143. He was trying but just couldn't hang.

 

I don't think high speed is dangerous as long as you are smart as to when and where. In south Dakota, I had the speedo pegged at 140+ for 5+ miles. Had the sunroof open and it wouldn't close b/c of the wind drag. Had to slow to around 115 to allow it to shut. After that my mom told me to keep it under 100.

Hell I hit 170+ on my rice burner 3-4 times per week. Raced a Z28 a few weeks ago and was at 190+ when I let off...
