I just got a 98 5sp Superblack SE and im ready to start putting some mods on it. The first mods that i wanted were a High Flow Intake by stillen and the Cattman Y pipe. Is this a good combination. Please give me your feedback on teh Y pipe. Also I would like to know if the Y pipe is illegal for road use in New Jersey. Let me know was up.

The Y-pipe is illegal for use on any public highway. (the STillen pipe has a small plaque welded on it that says exactly that) Not sure about the CAttman.
As far as passing. You car will most probably pass the NJ emissions testing. Many people here have. Many NY'ers have passed with the Y pipe in place as well. Myself included.
As far as passing the visual inspection. Technically no, but if the inspector doesn't recall exactly what the stock pipe is supposed to look like, you'll be fine. I used to perform NJ inspections back in 93-94, and I'd say it's impossible to know what all the stock exhaust systems look like.BTW, the plague on the Stillen pipe is located in such a place that it's almost impossible to read when installed on the car (between the pipe and the longitudinal crossmember) If Cattman has the same plaque, my guess is that it'd be in the same place. So no real worried there.
If your catalytic convertor, EGR valve, PCV valve and plugs are in good working condition, you should be able to pass.

The combination of the intake and Y should be good for about 15-18hp. With that combination, and good driving, you should be able to run very low 15's/high 14's.

I have the Cattman pipe. No plaques or anything. Yes, with the stock cat installed, the car will pass jersey tests no problem. As a precaution though, change your oil before inspecting it and make sure it is at full operating temp.

hey, before you start adding power to your car, fix what is poor about it first -> get some strut tower braces and sway bar (those are what you really need) then move on to the intake + exhaust deal...

Is the Y pipe designed for strictly racing or will it be fine for every day driving. Im just looking for extra power. also do you have any advice for upgrades to suspension and at what cost. Thank for the advice.
