Help!!! More stupid fuel filter problems
Help!!! More stupid fuel filter problems
I realize that this is supposed to be an easy wasy easy fix, but i still can't seem to get it right. Recap: I attempted to change it out, but i could still smell gasoline. so i tried to tighten the hose clamps, and i ended up cutting the hose and 12 gallons of gas came gushing out while i was driving
. sucks.. I replaced the hose with a higher quality hose, and it works. seems to hold pressure and is driveable, but i can still smell some gasoline.
The upper hose is brand new, as is the filter. Both I bought from HiLo o'reilly, and i'm using a Fram fuel filter sized for the 95 Maxima. But i didn't replace the lower hose at all.
Any ideas? I'm really sick of smelling gasoline. I think i'm desensitized to it
. Is it normal to smell a little bit of gasoline from the filter area even if things are normal? help, please!!!

No, I would think the gasoline smell would go away after some driving. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE SO MUCH GAS AROUND YOUR ENGINE THAT IT COULD IGNITE. Gas evaporates pretty quickly though. I don't know much about this system but, maybe something is wrong w/ your fuel return line or evaporative cannister? Good luck. Quit smoking.
Which one is the fuel return line and where is the evap cannister? I don't think i have much gas around the engine because i took a water hose to it and washed the area around the fuel filter after the mass 12-gallon fuel dumping. maybe i need to go to a self-car wash place and hose it down more thoroughly?
thanks for the feedback..

The EVAP canister is behind your left rear wheel, under the trunk, that black box. If there was a problem with it, your check engine light would come on.
Juts give it some time. 12 gallons of gas can leave quite stink for a while.
And try not to blow yourself up, that's a lot of spilt gas that could fire up easily.

You should wash the undercarraige of your whole car as well as the engine compartment. 12 Gallons of gas spilling while your driving has probably sprayed all over the underside of your car.
Go to a self serve car wash and get some soap sprayed on the undercarraige. Rinse, and spin dry.
