popcharger question

What is so good about the popcharger and what determines high and low end power on an intake?

Many people only buy the pop charger for sound. I, myself have the JWT pop charger. You gain a bit of high end power (power at higher revs) but tend to loose low end torque which will cause you to have weaker launches. The reason why the popcharger looses low end power is that it sucks in hot air from the engine bay. The air in the engine bay cools down once u get moving. A CAI (Cold air intake) sucks in cold air even from a start, thus you will not loose low end torque.

My 1st intake was a Stillen HAI and I wasnt too happy that i lost all of my low-end with it. Then again I did gain lots of high end. But once i made the swicth over to CAI i felt 90% of my low end come back and still had the same high end.

thats my .o2!

Dude, your low end torque has nothing to do with the temperature of the intake. It has to do with the length of the intake runner. The longer it is, the more turbulent the air gets at higher rpms. The air is only smooth at low rpms. This also gives you an adverse effect of the lack of breathing in high rpms. At around 5500 rpm the car loses power. This is not wanted. The Popcharger will make you loose torque because the short runner path will only get the rush of air if the vaccuum is high. This is why Variable Intakes work. There is an actuator that switches from a long intake runner to a short one to get the best of both worlds. For me I just made a Hybrid that takes care of that for me.
