racing from the line

rev to 2000 rpm while in Drive and o/d off (light on)
BUT HAVE UR BREAK ALL THE WAY DOWN
and then count the lights
if the others light is yellow
then u count 3 secs and launch

Re: racing from the line

Dang, your stoplights have a long pause. Mine you can only count about 1/1/2 to 2 secs when you see the yellow.

Anyway, I keep O/D on (haven't seen much change either way),and I shift up from low 1 to low 2. It depends on the surface on if I power brake or not. At the track I rev it to about 1700 to 2000rpm. ON the road 1000rpm(usually none at all) at the most. Since you said you were breaking out I would not do it at all and check you tire psi. You might need to deflate your tires some to get more traction.

Unless you have big rims.. 2000RPM is waaay too much. 1000-1500 RPM will give you a good launch.

I cant keep traction when I luanch any higher than regular if I just floor it the tires just spin.

I thought for a good launch you have keep the tire spinning to a min.???

Yes, you want to keep wheel spin to a minimum and prevent the engine from bogging too much. The wheels will spin a little. Otherwise the engine would bog. Launch low. You can try not flooring it all the way while the tires are spinning. And finally pushing the pedal all the way down after a 1 sec or so.

Ok, so exactly what do I do? Light on my right is turning yellow, and I know I have about 1 sec before it turns green, I have 17's and say I rev it about 1,000 to 1,500 rpm holding the brake down, now how do I coordinate the gas and brake? Do I floor it to 1,500 rpm with the brake down and then release it soon as it hits 1,500? Or do I keep it at about 1,500 rpm with the brake down, and then floor it exactly when I let up off the brake? And is holding the brake down while stepping on the gas bad for the engine/transmission? I tried this earlier tonight and I had less wheel spin then when I just floored it, but I'm not sure if I did it right. Exactly what do I do?

Just wondering, do you auto guys just leave it in D or manaully shift it starting from 1...2...D(overdrive off)...D(overdrive on)??? When I did that, I can redline it. Does leaving in D or manually shifting it make a difference?

Re: Re: racing from the line

Every car is different. We all have different size rims and tires. Tires are different compound. Surface is different.
You have to determine your best launch technique. But I will teach you how to "brake torque" the car. Hold the brake down, and gas it. The revs will rise and you let go of the brake while giving gas. Yes, holding the gas down with the brake is bad for the transmission. Thats why when you get better with the launches. You will be able to blip the gas to the right RPM and launch. There for causing minimal wear. But try it the regular way first. And try different RPMs. Massive wheelspin is bad.
