over drive off makes it go faster, forget why, but anything that saves gas does not give power.

you mean turning OFF overdrive wont let the car shift into 4th

frankly, Yes.

Overdrive has to do only with gears/shifts and nothing with the fuel/air mixture or power....

I think xspookyx is just confused about it. When the little orange sign says O/D OFF, that means it's actually on (Yes - the more power stage).

I personally think it should say O/D ON, and not OFF. 'cause well, it's ON. Not OFF! Ugh. Whatever. I don't know why Nissan designed it like that.

OK, now you're confusing me -- O/D OFF means O/D is OFF -- that is, the OD gear will NOT engage...so, I don't follow what you're saying...

it simply makes no sense.

some one smack me....

when the o/d light is lit and says O/D OFF, then overdrive is off and the tranny does not engage 4th gear. when there is no light, then O/D is on and the tranny will enage 4th gear. Flo_Boy was right in saying that it has nothing to do wih air/fuel mixture. it is not like a turbo boost by hitting the button.

from my own personal experience, racing with o/d on makes my car shift earlier than i want it to. leave it off.

There is nothing fancy or confusing about the O/D off button.

When you hit the button and "O/D off" appears on your dash, the ONLY thing that happens is the transmission will not shift into 4th gear.

It does not change shifts points, shift firmness or any of that stuff. ALL IT DOES IS LOCK OUT FOURTH GEAR.
