SCCA classification

Hey everyone. There is an SCCA meet near my house this Saturday. I'm planning on going to it whether I run my car or not. I am not sure what class I'd be in and what other cars would be in with me. Maybe you who are familiar with the SCCA classes could help. I have a 1996 Maxima SE 5-speed with the following mods:

Stillen intake, Warpspeed Y-pipe, Stillen catback exhaust, UR pulley

H & R springs, KYB AGX's, Stillen RSB, Courtesy FSTB, 17"x7" wheels wrapped with Kuhmo Supra 235/45's.

I went to SCCA's site to get more info, but they want me to buy their book for like 15 or 20 bucks. Does anyone know what class I'd be in? Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long post.

You would qualify for STS class, here is a link to classification rules. http://mouton.best.vwh.net/sccasolo/

Also, I have a link to a novice handbook. http://www.miata.net/sport/autox.html

And some other info. http://users.ev1.net/%7Ejdiaz/articles.html

I thought that he would get bumped to street prepared because of his tires and ypipe since a) the ypipe is not emissions legal, and b) the tires are 235 instead of 225. I have about the same mods, so I've read the rules a few times before. I've heard that at local events they don't always care so much about minor rules, but at higher levels they will definitely change your class.

You're right xHypex, sorry I missed the tire size and y-pipe.

At the local level they aren't going generally going to be checking tire section width and CERTAINLY not checking the legality of your Y-pipe. Unless you specifically tell them you are "technically ineligable" for STS, they will put you in STS.

I went last year to watch a friend of mine in his 280z. And the tech guys didn't seem to picky, so hopefully they'll be the same this time. Thanks everyone.

Yeah, over here it's more relaxed until you start beating people! I'm running in DSP cause of my wheel & tire size...I'd try STS but I don't want to be known as a "cheater"...many of the racers are my friends and they are not afraid to tell me off!

Stay in STS, if you go to street prepared you will be eaten. That's a really competitive crowd.

In our region they do catch the tires over 225 width so be forewarned. They won't catch the y-pipe (may be legal soon anyway). Perhaps run as a novice or instructor class if they offer to keep the competitive spirit true. Good luck!
