KYB or KONI?

What do you think that the best shocks are for the Maxima. I know that the Konis are really good and they have been out for a while. But are the KYB AGX's just as good?

KYB's are as good or better. Plus: Direct replacement, and cheaper.

Do a search, you'll find lots of info

Konis will require some work and changes to the strut itself to get on there. KYB's will be less of a pain.

KYB AGX is a much more technologically advanced shock cartridge than the Koni.

Not only that, Koni's cost more & as you know, require modification for fitment. There is no rational reason to buy the Koni's anymore with an option like the AGX available. Simply, AGX is the new king of the jungle for the Maxima. Koni's *were* the best performance strut available for the Maxima, but their reign has come to an end.

Quality wise KONIS LIFETIME WARRANTY, the front konis are not direct replacements the rears are.

KYBS direct replacement all the way One year warranty and you can adjust the rears from the outside, konis you have to disassemble to adjust reboun in the rears. Both good shocks.

KYB AGX's have a limited lifetime warrenty.....I emailed KYB..this is their response....
"Steve,

The KYB AGX products are a Limited Lifetime Warranty. The warranty applies only to the original purchaser with a proof of purchase. The warranty excludes product that is mis-applied and/or abused. Excessive lowering and the use of Aftermarket coilover suspension kits constitutes abuse and will void the warranty.

Regards,

Chuck Gonwa
KYB America LLC"

So ground controls and Weapon Rs void the warranty on the KYBs, thats not fair to anyone here that already has purchased them. If you dont live in pothole kingdom and hit bumps hard the KYBs should be fine.

Contact Koni, or Tokico.....I'm pretty sure they have the same warrenty policy, excessive lowering/coilovers puts extra stress on a strut, therefor, justifiably they will not warrenty struts used with coilovers. And I think what KYB means by "excessive lowering" is lowering 1.5 inches or more.......but I am not sure on that...
