Stereo Disguise

I've been hearing about stolen car stuff and stolen cars lately....I remembered that I saw some member here did some project to protect his stereo system....he had like a Maxima Bose Stock head unit face plate and it covered his stereo system.....does anyone remember this or know who he is????

Re: Stereo Disguise

I haven't heard of this... I wonder if it would fit well enough to look normal (I'd think it would stick out more than it should).

Seems to me like the 4th gen center console is ideal for a metal "roll top" hide-away cover that would lock in place, protecting your valuable high end stereo system.

But if you go for a single DIN removable faceplate, no false faceplace is needed.

I saw something like this done on a 5th gen, I think the link was off of MEIsearch.com. I'll try to find the exact link and post it.

Ask around in the 5th gen forum. I am sure that there are probably a bunch of people in there who know. Or maybe the Audio/Electronics forum as well.

I had an AWESOME one in my Audi. It was a single din. I had a detachable face. I had a fake face that would go on when the CD face was removed. What I did was take apart a cheapo tape player and super-glued all the ***** and stuff back onto the face. I then cut a cassette tape in half and made it stick out the front! It fooled everyone. I haven't bothered with a stereo in the Maxima so I have not made one yet. The double din might make it tougher though...
Good luck.

The only thing about disguising your expensive system with the stock Bose face, is that to some thieves the Bose system is worth stealing!

Which is understandable. It really is a very nice stock syste,. Most stock radios are so plain and boring looking and really dont have much "personality" to them. Plus BOSE itself is a big name in radio.

Eh, the BOSE system isn't that great. I think you're pretty safe using the stock BOSE face to hide your aftermarket deck. The only market I could see for stolen stock BOSE units is someone who wants to replace their broken BOSE unit. They are not the best and the really sucky thing about them is they have to be used with BOSE amps and speakers. Too much trouble.

Don't forget to chain your deck to your chasis and use security screws for all speakers/amps, etc. That's what I did with my Audi.

My stereo is a complete steath install. You'll never know it was aftermarket unless you heard it going. Everything is behind stock grilles (except the front tweeters, but those are painted to match the inside) and my headunit resides below the stock Bose unit. Amps are under the seats and in the trunk. It looks totally factory.
