Two questions about lowering my max...

I've got two questions about lowering my 95 GLE. First of all, I thought I read somewhere that you shouldn't put springs on with the stock suspension, and that you should get aftermarket shocks. Is this true or is it okay to just put springs on? Second, would lowering my car with my stock 15 inch rims look stupid or would it look okay? Any feedback would be great guys, thanks.

lowering the car will put more pressure on your stock shocks which will cause the to deteriorate in quality .... aftermarket shocks are made to handle the extra pressure
hope that helps

Conrad is correct, aftermarket springs will waer out the OEM dampers mreo quickly.

I have stock 15" steelie rims and I'm lowered, I dont think it looks lame. Well, other than the fact that the wheels are ugly to begin with.

I have the same car and wheels you do and I lowered it with H&R's. It looks way better then it before. After allowing the springs to settle I have about a two inch gap at the top of the tire.

The GLE was built to ride like a waterbed so the srings are soft. They dont require alot of compression or rebound damping. Any aftermarket spring is going to be alot stiffer than the ones you have now and they will require much more damping to keep the ride from being bouncy. If you do install aftermarket springs on the OE struts you probably will not like the ride at all and will have to take the suspension apart twice to replace the struts when they wear out.

I would suggest AGX's (along with just about everyone on this board) even if you have to wait longer before doing the job. You will thank yourself later.
