Mystery Window Rolldown

I have a 1997 SE that I just bought used about a month ago. About two weeks ago, I started having problems with the windows. The front two windows would roll down by themselves. I would have the car parked in a lot and would come back to find the front two window rolled half way down. Sometimes they will only roll down a crack, sometimes half way, and sometimes not at all. Weather does not seem to be a factor since it happens rain (not good) or shine, warm or cold. Both windows always go down the same (ie if the drivers is cracked, so is the passengers; if the drivers is half way, so is the passengers). It does seem to happen almost exclusively during the day and in large parking lots. I tried locking the windows and that had no effect. I am suspecting the previous owner installed an alarm with an automatic window feature but I wanted to see if any other owners have run across this before I tear off the door panels and dash looking for alarm remnants. The keyless entry remote I was given appears to be stock.

Any input will be considered.

Thanks

when you unlock your doors on your remote, one click unlocks the drivers side door...two clicks opens all doors...and if you hold down the button the windows roll down. Maybe your remote is broken or when you put it in your pocket it presses the button. This may be your problem.

Maybe check inside the door to make sure the motor that rolls down the window is good. Second maybe check the motor that rolls them up/down is good also. Anyone know a way to test it?

He is holding down the unlock button too long.. :=) lol... funny how most Maxima owners don't know we have this feature. I didn't realize I had it until I was playing around with my remote.

LOL... I had the same problem...

The stock unlock alarm unlock button will do that if you hold it down for a few seconds. I used to carry my keys around in my pocket, the button would get pressed and Voila! My friggen windows would roll down outside(it was within range)...

I felt like a dork when I figured it out....

Wait....

I am a dork...

Thanks for all your help. I guess that is one of the big problems with buying a car used instead of new. I bought the car at a Toyota dealership but the salesman that sold me the car used to work for a Nissan dealer. He spend a decent amount of time going over features, but obviously missed a few. I guess this type of situation is what makes these forums so valuable.

Thanks again.

hehe Look through the book that came with your car if they still had it. Lots of fun things you can learn in there.

The stock remote/alarm also have incredible range!! One more thing to be careful about. I found that out when my car alarm went off when I pressed the panic button. The car was parked some 50+ feet away. My friends with remote keyless entry are jealous cuz their range is sooo short.

yea i figured out the rolling down thing playing with the remote too..but about the range, u wanna kno sumthin wierd...my friend told me this and it worked too...u can increase the range of it, by holding the remote vertical pressed up against under yur chin...i dunno how to exactly describe it, but u hold it however u normally hold it when ur gonna press the buttons, but put it right under yur chin pushing up into your top neck/chin area...and it worked one time when my friend said to do it when we were in the parking lot...i held the remote out in front of me and it didnt reach, but when i put it in this position, it sumhow worked..dunno why, dunno how, it just did sum kinda magic...maybe our chins have sum kinda hidden satelite nissan alarm signal transmitter inside them

Go buy yourself a 97 or 98 Owners manual for a few bucks at the Dealer.
