YES!!! I FOUND MY CAR!!! but is it worth this?

Found a 1997 Maxima SE 5 speed white, no bose, no leather:-(, everything else. Anyway, its got 68,000 miles and they want $13,533. Seems high to me, what should I offer for this? It is in PERFECT condtion, except for scratches on the gauge glass and one piece of broken trim. No rust, dents, scratches on the outside.
Thanks
Jay

P.S. Also got a new job! Full time $15 hour! Yes!!

You should be able to talk them down a thousand or two, seeing as it doesn't have that many options (a good thing in many respects). As long as the maintainance records are up to date, I would pursue it for sure. Good luck in this and your new job.

Definitely priced a little too high.

FWIW, a year ago, I paid $7500US for a 95SE 5spd w/75,000 miles - all options(leather, auto-climate control, heated seats, Bose, VLSD{Canada only)power driver's seat) except CD changer and power passenger seat.

As tempting as it might be to buy now, you should keep looking, IMHO.

Good luck with the new job.

That's TOO MUCH! KBB value for that car is around $10,000.00 (Private Party) - Try to offer the guy around $9,000.00 - (but I highly doubt the seller will consider that).

I am sure you can find the same type of car (with leather & bose) for less than 10K. Good luck!

I just bought my 96 SE 5 speed with 66000 for 10k. Fully loaded and in great condition. I used up what was left of the clutch in 3 weeks though Funny thing is I wouldn't have paid 10k if it was auto. Its just that 5 speeds in great condition and low miles are so hard to find. Good luck

I just paid 15,000 for an automatic SE with everything and 61,000 miles on it. Leather, heated seats and mirrors, power seats, sunroof.... on and on. I bought it from a dealer and probally paid a little too much for it. For what your lokking to get I would say 13,500 at the dealer or 12,750 independent. I live in Minnesota and the market is weird here. May be different in your area. Try to talk them down... thats the best thing you can do. Also don't let em know your set on the car or they won't budge. Pretend your looking elsewhere and have other options you just as likely to get. Then they will play the pricing game.

I say that price is mediocre. I don't think they're trying to rip you off, but I think you could do a bit better. I would start at $11k and work your way up. Don't pay more than $12,500 IMHO.

That seems a little too high, especially without Bose and Leather. Last week I saw a 96 I30 with 100k miles, loaded with everything, on a car lot for $7500. And get this, it's 5-speed. This is San Francisco bay area I am talking about.

I'll sell you my 98 GXE for 10 grand and with less miles, also in perfect condition with a few toys

I would not pay more then 10 grand for a 97 Maxima unless it has "ALL" options and less then 60k miles. NYC GXE just got a 98 SE 5spd with all options, i'm talking everything, even side air bags..... even the freaking gold package. lol. 65k miles and paid under 11 grand. Although that is a crazy deal he found there.. but I believe the guy was asking for around 12.5 or 11.5k to start with..... I will never pay asking price for the car right off the bat. Unless it's brand new and I'm ordering it from factory the exact way I want it. Offer them 11 at most. if you really like it..

Yeah too high. There's a 97 white SE 5spd 72k for sale down the street from me. Asking 12,500. And get this: Leather, bose, C&C package, cold weather package (heated seats) this car has everything, fully loaded.

Call your bank's car loan officer and find out what the NADA retail, wholesale and loan values are. Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds and others are close, but they are NOT the bible.

**** Crapy Hell Damn

This sucks, after doing some number work, I wont have money for 2 months. I doubt they will have that car in two months! I would like to have a $2,500 down payment on it. This is not cool! Ohh well, it could happen still, Im 99% sure its a SE, if I do end up having the cash, would someone mind running the VIN thourgh carfax to make sure nothing has happened to it?
Thanks
Jay

If it's fully loaded, I would pay 11K. If it's base SE, under 10K.
15 bux an hour you gotta save your money
Try dealer auctions. I got my car fully loaded SE with auto/abs for 9500 last january with 70K miles at dealer auction.
Got a 60K mile 97 altima for my grandma for 6K recently at a dealer auction. Very happy with both.

Bose is manufactured in Framingham, MA (USA). Unless Panasonic has built a facility there, I believe you're mistaken.

its very expensive but the funny thing is that when i bought mine i ripped all the stuff out anyway. My bose system went bad. and if your trying to "trick" it out than the bose doesnt matter and the other stuff is minor. The mainthing is too just talk them down!!

NADA values

Here they are, I have an April 2002 book. Reatail would be right around 13, Trade 10.5, loan 9475. No deductions or additons for mileage. NADA doesn't have ABS listed as an option so if it has that it would change the numbers..

You can refer to the FAQ for the model differences but an SE has white guages, outer window trim and door handles same color as body, spoiler, fogs, and the sport suspension. Everything else is an option.
