Here I'll be nice the the newbie...

http://www.seas.ucla.edu/~cheston/fuelfilter.html

It's very easy to do, took me less than 10 minutes to replace. All you really need is a screw driver and some pliers.

If you have trouble with the hoses, use a hair dryer to warm them up prior to removal.

Personally I find the hair dryer too slow. Use a propane torch instead (hey if it works on rusted on exhaust bolts, it's gotta work on fuel line, right )

dude here's a tip.. its not very easy to get the hoses off.. you can either heat them up, or do what i did. take the top hose off first, and not the end on the fuel filter, but the one that goes to the throttle body or whatever.. its the easiest to take off, and once you do, the pressure is released and everything else becomes easier.. be prepared to swear a lot at the hoses too, theyre very stubborn. it took me like 4 tries to finally change my fuel filter..

Just twist it off. Do the upper hose first and then the lower hose. To make life easier, move some of the wires/hoses/electric connectors to the side so that you have better access.

Btw, make sure you put a piece of rag underneath the filter before you twist the darn thing off.

Mmm...the wonderful smell of raw fuel...

P.S. Avoid smoking, otherwise your life will FLASH before you.

Im gonna sort out this thread for everyone...

THE TRUTH.......

Yes it does make a diference when you change it. Its every 30k I think or 24 months or as need because your car will start, and burn gas like a piece of **** when it is clogged up.

To make life easier, move some of the wires/hoses/electric connectors to the side so that you have better access.

Btw, make sure you put a piece of rag underneath the filter before you twist the darn thing off.

No need to unplug battery. (But whats the harm in pulling off the negative cable. = 3 seconds)

When you put on the new filter vazz it up a little for next time.

You can get the hoses started off by prying with a screw driver. Its like opening a beer with a lighter - fulcrum lever theory.

THE POST WHORRING....(AKA FALSE STATEMENTS)
Avoid smoking, otherwise your life will FLASH before you. - Negative.

Use a propane torch. - Negative

What are you implying about Newbies. - Negative

THE WAY I GOT THE HOSES OFF....

Pliers very carefully, if your hoses rip they are too old and should be replaced anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

You are right it is difficult to get the bottom one off. Some may be harder than others but mine was a real B@#ch. Just keep turning and pulling at the same time, eventually it will let loose and you will have bloody knuckles just like mine. I tried spraying a lubricant on the inside of the hose after prying it apart etc but nothing seemed to work just keep working it and it will come off. We spent about 45 mins on the bottom hose before it came loose seems like everything I do on this car results in blood shedding. But it is fun, even watching the healing process of your hands and knowing your gas is flowing faster.

took long cus of the tubes and the lil screws, but now that i
know how to do it..i'll probably take abuot 10 or 15 mins..jus

look past your throttle body, near the firewall, and pretty deep into the engine bay.. you should see it, a cylinder with two hoses coming out of it vertically...

Well, I just changed out the fuel filter. I'm dead tired. The filter was a real PITA to change. Actually, the hardest part was the stubborn top hose that didn't want to come off. The bottom hose came off easily. Make sure you have plenty of towels to soak up the fuel. I think if the hardest part you will face is getting the hose off and back on again. When I put the new filter back on, I had to deal with the stubborn top hose again. It took me even longer to try to push the hose back on. It's not flush against the filter, but close enough. I noticed the fuel that came out of my old filter was really dirty. It's not that hard if you could get pass the hose. Also, the limited amount of space didn't help. I scratched up my left hand a bit. Oh well, hopefully it's all worth the trouble.

I just changed mine today. I did it before, but taking those tubes off the filter is a pain in the a$$. I have skinny arms, but that stupid front strut bar just gets in my way. I swear that I had to have cut myself at least once on each of my fingers

Most of the other guys covered what you need. Wearing a pair of latex or Mechanix glove for this job will help out a little. You will have a better grip on the filter and less scrape/bloody knuckles. Not as easy as it seems especially for the first timers. Do this in an open area with some ventilation. The smell of raw fuel can knock you out. Take your time and good luck. Welcome to the DIY world.
