Throttle positioning sensor?

Do maximas have a throttle positioning sensor? The reason I ask is the other day while in traffic I would step on the accelerator just barely and the rpm's would go up to about 1500 and then dip back down to below 500 and act like it was going to die. I immediately checked the throttle cable to see if it was loose and sure enough it was, so I tightened it just a little and the problem pretty much went away. Except it is still kind of sluggish like while applying slight throttle pressure. Ie; the car reves but seems like something is slipping in the tranny or maybe the throttle positioning sensor. This only happens occasionally, but it is pretty annoying, and I would like to have instantaneous acceleration like I get for the majority of the time. Has any one else experienced this with there automatic Maxima? Thanx for the comments.

Yeah, Maxima has a throttle position snesor, or "TPS" as refered to on this board. Goes for around 70 dollars from the dealer. It's the weird looking thing next to the throttle body, has two electrical connectors plugged into it.
