Need help with launching a 5spd!!

I know this sound pretty dumb but I just bought a 98 Max SE 5 spd. This is my first spd and I need advice on how to launch the freakin thing. I can shift pretty good but every time so far (which isn't much/ 3-4 few times) that I've raced (which I was suprise I still won ) I either peeled out a too much or not quite the best start. I know these things take time so I'll keep @ it. I am so happy I got this Max its faster than I thought it would be. If theres ne advice or suggestions on what I can do to improve please feel free to share. Thanx in advance.

start at 2,000 and work your way up until you can launch it well.

Yeah, I'm curious to see other posts here. I too drive a stick and have pretty bad launches. DO you guys "ride" the clutch when launching or do you moderate wheelspin with the throttle. I have an ACT II clutch and launch around 1800, then once I'm moving I gas it. IT then either spins or hops - depending on which tire set I have on it. So, do I not go full throttle or do I slip the clutch? Thanks. My best 60 foot is 2.355 which sucks. I've done it with and without burnouts, and different tire pressures.
