4 types of manual trans to look for, what am i supposed to choose?
Ok guys, i did a search and found answers on topics similar to this but none actually answering this...it's a simple question just want to make sure i know what i'm looking for before i actually go out and pay for it when the time comes....
there are 4 trans i've seen on searchse and when talking to guys they ask me...they are:
1/94 locking differential
1/94 non locking differential
1/95 locking differential
1/95 non locking differential
if i remember correctly, that (1/94) is a different number like X/94 but i don't remember...anyway, i think i'm loking for 1/95 locking or nonlocking differential preferably locking...and that's what the i30's have right? someone answer this for me real quick...thanks

so, all the auto transmissions i've found with "locking differentials" have lsd's? i've found quite a few, so i was a little weary i had that right... can anyone verify? how about if it'd bolt right in place of mine.

A lot of places don't know for sure and just guess... I know on the 5spds the axle seals should both be big, where on a non lsd the drivers side is smaller than the passenger side... You can also have them look for a 'V' on the part number for the tranny, if they can find it...

If you are dealing with a junkyard over the phone and you can get a VIN of the car the transmission is off of, call David Burdette at Maxwell Nissan in Austin. He has access to data records that specify what type of transmission was installed at the factory. He is an .org member and a great guy. I hope you don't mind me sharing this, Dave!
Beware that a lot of junkyard dealers will tell you a transmission is vlsd if they know you're looking for one.
