Max Vs. Max

my friend was in his 97 se auto and i was beside him. we hit it. both spun alittle. i jumped him, but then he started to pull. his back bumper was at my back door. we had to stop cause we ran out of room. his is stock , with stock se wheels. mine has PR cai and 17 in shoguns 235/45/17. i think i need an udp and y pipe. any suggestions. i think the wheels help on the jump, but slow down after a while. any help?

Are both of you autos? If so, then there is a lot of things that could have contributed to the outcome. Driver(s) is probably the one big thing, car condition may be the other. On the street, there are a lot of variables that can make the outcome one way or the other.

Get a Y pipe...

Youll beat him then. The Y and CAI are a great combo, like peanut butter and jelly.

yea, like the other dude said, weight of person and rims play a role, if both of you weighed the same, it should be an even race, but since he has a newer car, unless you've been properly taking care of your engine (oil changes constant, clean ups and stuff, etc.) then he might have a little edge over you...but all 4th gen maxima's are equal in speed, no difference except i think the SE Limited which is on the 99 maxima's.....

i stand corrected

i also remember hearing that the 95 maxima has this thing in the engine that makes it more pollutant than the other 4th gen maxima's but makes it a little faster. Someone on this forum told me about this, i forget who but they took something out the engine from years 96 to 99 and supposedly, my car (1995) is supposed to have a little edge over the rest of you....but until i see that in writing, i really won't hold on to that statement....

I didn't mean the driver as in size, I meant as in experience. If you know your car and have experience driving, then the edge goes to you everytime especially if you street race. Lots of young boys with toys they don't know how to handle. Which if you think about it is a great reason not to run on the street in the first place. BTW, all maximas are not equal. They were created equal at the factory, but after the first start up way too many variables come into play which affect performance. The situation described in this thread leads me to lean towards the driver being the factor since the edge was very slight.
