Finally got my intake in and check engine light

First off WOW I wasn't expecting the intake to sound like that at all!!!!!!!! But my fun was ruined when my check engine light came on I'm a little scared now.My car is a 98 Gle with 24,500miles on it. I installed the intake myself and its the fist mechanical thing I ever did to my car. I would really appreciate help from you guys. Also I remember reading something about some guy who wasn't getting full throttle with the peddle stomped, because a wire was blocking the throttle body or something. Would you still get the sound but without the extra power this has made me paranoid and is now in the back of my head, how would you fix this. Thanks in advance to everyone for the help!

read the ECU code man.. do a search on how to do that. then people will be able to help you. It might be the MAF sensor, but I don't think that problem exists on 98 model year

did you disconnect the MAF sensor at any time while the car was turned on? if so, you need to reset your cpu.

nope

I never disconnected it when the car was on. Is it possible that everything still works fine its just that the ecu has to adjust to the changes? Thanks

I second that....happened to me. Reset the ECU and see if it comes back on after that. If no, sigh and move on. If it does, pull the fault code(s) and post back or search. Each code will tell you what is the problem. Before buying any parts, search in here FIRST. Many of us have gone thru all this many times before and can advice as to what you should do. Good luck.

Well I reset the ECU and sad to say the light came back on. I guess I gotta check the codes. Just to make sure I did it right all you have to do is disconnect te battery right?

That won't work.

Go to www.maximadriver.com then go to the "how 2" and find ECU Reset...

That's all you need, it will show you how to do a diagnostic and reset it.

Yeah, it works . . . .if you leave it dis-connected for 24 hours.

Use the screwdriver method described in maximadriver.com

I bet it's either the AT Sensor plug or the MAF plug. I did both those when I first installed my intake.

One more thing I'm not sure if it's in my head but the last couple of days the car feels like its not accelerating as fast as it should be.
Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks

Re: Re: Re: THANKS

The POP style intakes, like the Stillen and JWT, are notorious for having lack luster low end torque. Maybe that's what you're feeling.

It is possible that the low end torque is the same as stock, or maybe a bit better, but the sound associated with it is much greater. The combination of sound and feel may result in what you're feeling.

Then again, maybe the ECU needs time to adjust to the new intake. Give it about a week.

1) Reset ecu via the screw.

2) Allow a couple of hundred miles for the ecu to use fuzzy logic to give you more hp due to the increase in air flow.

3) Smile when the rustang envies you v-8 sound.

Well I ran the diagnostic check and it came up 0401 intake air temp sensor. I then reset the ECU and the check engine, light is gone. Do I still have the problem? Is it something serious or is it just that sensor was only functional with the stock intake and is now no longer functional and thats why the light came on? Bottom line should I be worried? Thanks again

Live in fear...

Your car might explode...

It will be fine. Did you put the sensor where it belongs?

I have a 95 so it's a bit different than yours...

Mine is at the top of the cone. They moved it in newer years down further. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it should be attached to the intake piping somewhere before the throttle body...

You have the PR CAI correct?? There should have been a hole somewhere in the piping for you to install it. Again, someone who has a 97-99 should post a definate answer...

Hope this helps...

There's a hole at the bottom of the small pipe before the MAF sensor. I was supposed to put a sensor in there? Thanks again

Thanks again Madmax! You were a big help! I realized that I'm a moron and forgot to take that sensor from the stock tube and put it in the hole in the new tube. So I basicly left that wire just hangin there connected to nuttin. One more question I drove around with that hole unplugged for a few days could I have sucked anything into that hole. I know I'm half retarded and wasting your time.

You could have...

Doesn't mean that you're doomed...

It means your car will explode... (Mysteriously)

You fixed it right?
