dissapointed with ypipe.

I just had my warpspeed ypipe installed, and I am not too impressed. The car drives better, I feel like I got a good gain from it, I dont have to downshift as much...

the dissapointment is.. I didnt pick up too much real gain from it I dont think... or maybe i was expecting too much. but races that were DEAD even before, I can BAREEEELY pull on now, so I guess there is a change, but not much..

is something wrong with my car maybe, ? It was very fast before because I could run DEAD even with a '95se 5spd w/ intake/ypipe/guttedcat/etc when I ONLY had intake... now with ypipe, you can see teh change (I have video posted on my homepage, www.css.tayloru.edu/~hheiner/hlh0501) - not a whole lot..

I reset my ecu, and its been about 500 miles... anything else could be wrong? there are no leaks either.

hmmm, sorry to hear that.

I think a ypipe should do more than barely pull. My brother's 2k 5spd would be beaten by like 5 car lengths by a GST, but after ypipe, it was more like 2.

I"m getting my 2nd ypipe (budget) tomorrow. Can't wait to put it on.

:o)

How's the sound?

P.s. Which pipe did you get? Mandral? Non-mandral? Aluminum? SS?

Yeah, I'm not too impressed with the ypipe now either. Before hal had a ypipe, we were dead even until we got over 100mph. Not until then did I noticably start to pull. Now that we both have the same mods, he pulls only half a car ahead whereas before I was the one pulling half a car ahead. You can imagine, I was expecting to have a couple car lengths put on me when I raced him again. Should have, but didn't happen. Anyone care to take a shot and explain this??

Honestly I didn't feel the gains on my car either when I first put in my Y-pipe, although we didn't reset the ECU. I did start to feel gains as I drove it a couple weeks later, although it wasn't as noticeable as I expected it to be. I am getting about the same power as everyone else with the same mods and I don't think I was anywhere close to 183 HP at the wheels to begin with.

Hm...when I first got my ypipe, I definitely felt the difference. So, not sure if anything is wrong with your car or not. And I have an automagic, so your 5spd(former auto ) should feel it even more.

I think you guys are believing a Y-pipe is gonna add turbo-like power or something. You've got a 3000-3100lb car that makes 155-165fwhp stock. Adding a y-pipe only gets you 10-12fwhp. It's not huge. The topend is where the y-pipe shines (above 70mph). If you want a real kick, then get nitrous or a SC.

If you can run with a 95 SE 5 speed with a y-pipe, intake, and catback, then there's something with that driver. That 95 5 speed should be walking you after 60mph. I hang out with a one of the quickest NA automatic guys (15.0@92mph) in this org and his car would get walked by mine from 60mph on. He consistently gets 91-92mph and I get 95-96mph.

I'm talking about BSwithTF (Travis). He lives in Joplin and drives a 95 GXE with a y-pipe, intake, UDP, ECU, and catback. He ran a 15.08@91mph at KCIR and a 15.01@92mph at Mo/Kan. I'll be going to KCIR this Sunday if the Import event gets canceled for Saturday down in Joplin. You should come down and run. Travis told me Mo/kan is a much better track traction wise plus I just got some new tires that hook up hard

top end power, but this shows at above ~40 mph, not 70.
nonetheless, don't forget about things like knock sensors and such, which seem to be giong bad on all 95-96 models lately. And you should reset the ECU for sure after getting the Y installed.

Dave, I really don't see a driver's advantage in this case. I mean how much skill is a 60 punch up to 110mph?? It's a 3rd to 4th gear change. When I went to the track for my first time last spring I was traping out at 94mph with my ypipe on. BTW I'm not running a catback. But anyways, thanks for the advice. I guess the true numbers of the ypipe wont show till you hit the trap hal. Dave is right, I don't think 10-12hp is going to many car lengths on a car above 60
