Timing Chain Noise

I have a 97 SE with 86K miles. i am hearing some rattling chain like noise from the engine for the past few days. Could it be the timing belt needs replacement? Can it be tightened?
One of the dealers says it may cost $1000 to fix

When was the last time you replaced the oil filter? The anti-drainback valves become less effective when the filters get older allowing more oil to drain out of the engine when the car sits for a while. It will take a few more seconds to get oil presure to the timing chain tensioners after you start the car.

Not all oil filters are created equal. Try to stick with the OE Nissan filter or the better aftermarket ones like the Purolator Pure One, Amsoil, or Wix. If you do a search there are others that are highly recommended that I can't think of right now, but avoid Fram. They are no good.
