smoother trans - special kind of transmission fluid?

I have a 1995 GXE automatic. Recently my car has been shifting like a manual. Meaning like it jerks into gear. For the most part its only 1 into 2nd, but I sometimes get it at higher gears. Now when i first got the car, about a year ago I did a bunch of neutral drops. I KNOW I KNOW, its very bad for your car, but I didn't know it back then. Anyway, my friend told me of this transmission fluid that is made for older cars with older transmissions. Its supposed to be much thicker and help the trans. Anyway, has anyone done this with there car, or can you reccomend a good brand? thanks.

I use Redline D4 ATF in my automatic, but it doesn't smoothen out the shifts as noticably as you would think. I think in your case a transmission flush would do the trick. You do not need synthetic fluid, as long as you routinely maintain your transmission (drain and refill every 15k).

Jiffy Lube generally charges between $80-100 for the T-tech full ATF flush service. It's worth it if your transmission is shifting funny. I hope that solves your problem. If even after the flush the transmission is still rough, you'll have to take to a transmission shop (or just live with it).

Check the dropping resistor, it located near the top of the front drivers side strut tower, near the MAF it has two wires connected to it and its about 1/2 inches square by 2 inches long. Remove the connector and check the resistance through it, it should read between 11-13 ohms. They are worth about 25 cents but they probably sell them for 20 bucks or so.
