Opinion on ALTEZZAS...

Am I the only 1 who thinks altezzas look cheap and crappy on maximas?? I thought the black chromes might be nice until I saw them on a black max.. the have the light outline like the carbon fiber lights. I still think the red/clears look the best.

I think it depends on the color of the car. The chrome ones looks ok on some cars and so do the black ones, but then again there are some colors like that gold colored max that I think they look awful on. Just my opinion.

Unfortunatly they do. I have a black max and I was considering getting them until I saw them in person. They dont look like the ones they show on the black max on custommaxima.com, which look completely black all around.

They look good on white maxima's...in my opinion. I guess it's simply a matter of taste. I think they look better on ours than some others. They make it almost look like a lexus...while on some other cars, they look like really crappy home made p.o.s.'s To each their own.

that's your opinion...
and in my opinion, your opinion is wrong. there are plenty of people on the site who favor both sides of this disagreement so no use arguing.
you must admit though, they look better than most honda's and mustangs and others...ok bye

I like Altezzas "Skylined-style", where everything but the red is painted body color.

Im definitely not an Altezza advocate. However, in most cases, including my own car, I think they look better than the stock lights. If Red/Clears were easy to get I would prefer those, but since they arent you gotta go with what is available.

i have them on my silver 98 and i like them. of course, i have the aluminum dtm wing as well. yes, label me 100% rice boy, but i've done a thing or two to make a difference. all but the actual main pair of the wing has been paint matched to my car. next time i go in for body work, the outline and weather sealant around the tezzas is being painted as well. as far as papasmurf's white max... very nice

I am waiting for my Altezza's that I ordered, but I thought there was a link on the CustomMaxima site to install the Altezza's. I'm sure they are easy to install, but do you know where if any, they have them posted?

I think even the chrome ones look good on black max, as long as you paint the silver border around the lights black. I painted mine already, if only i could put my new max on the road.

for all of you who say they looked good on their car, im sorry but imo it really doesnt. it makes the car look cheap and ghetto. i think if they werent so big and flashy it would look so cheap....yeh the ones on the custommaxima.com site with the black on black looked OK but still too flashy....i agree that there might be a way to make them look good ...maybe tone it down a little

I was thinking the same thing thats why i might try doing like sexima and painting all around exccept for the red so they look more like skyline tails untill i can do my R-34 Headlight and taillight conversion.

You know thats funny, i was obsessed with them in the begining but now i like the red/clears which are next to impossible to find. I ordered the altezzas, they came to my house damaged so i sent them back and didn't get them again and i'm glad i waited it out. Since the car has a lot of horizontal and vertical lines (not swirls and dips) I don't think the big red circles complement the body style of a max.

97-99 clear out the lights, 95-96 find the davidl7 lights. Otherwise leave it stock. This answers my opinion of altezzas, I use to own a 95 so I know the deal

I will be out of country during the NJ meet. Please send the instructions to Stefnee@worldnet.net.

On another note, I have a 99 SE-L that has the titanium badging. I decided to get the chrome altezza's vs the carbon, but I'm having second thoughts. I'm thinking the carbon would match better.

I dunno guys, IMO, Altezzas look like crap on almost all cars. On the 4th Gens they stick out and take away attention from the beautiful clean lines of the car. If you want to stand out from the rest of the maximas, CLear/Reds are the way to go.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

I think the altezzas look fine on certain color maximas. I have the silver ones on my custom painted silver max. The lights blend right in and look factory instaed of standing out and taking attention away from the rest of the car. I did my homewaork on how the would look instaed of just running out and get them because they were something new for the max. I only did the outer edges though, i didn't do the trunk. To me it looks better that way.

Altezza problems:

1) Fit and finish is inconsistent.
2) Production defects are noticeable (e.g. rippled plastic here and there).
3) They DON'T FIT as well as OEM. You'll have some raised surfaces.
4) You LOSE your amber turn signals (these are ALL red).
5) The turn signal and parking/brake bulbs illuminate the same red disk, so the turn signals aren't very distinct--you need brighter bulbs now.
6) The red lens produces a "washed out" kind of red--you really need red 1157 bulbs in them to look half-way decent.
7) There are no side reflective properties, which is against the law. You'll have to add your own. (If you've hidden the side marker lights with paint, that's illegal too).

I think they're from the Toyota Avalon.
I seen some guy who used the lexus is300 lights on the trunk lid looked real nice.
As for which is better altezzas or red/clear, I have red/clear from David Lau and its very unique alot of peeps with Maxes always ask me where can they buy my lights but I tell them that they are custome made and the duy don't make them anymore, so if you want to be different and have your max notice go red/clear, on the other hand if you can't get red/clears go altezza's because anything beets looking stock like the other million maxes out there.
