Kumho Ecsta 712

I just got some Kumho Ecsta 712s in 235 45 17s. I know a lot
of people are running this tire and wonder if everyone's tires
howl as much as mine do under hard cornerning...

I thought with a soft compound summer tire I would get nice
quiet xcross style parking lot driving...but these things are
damn loud...

do i have defective tires or is this how these tires are?

I had Kumhos before and yes they are loud as all he//, its normal for that tire.

My Toyo T1-Ss are incredible, I just put the wheels and tires on friday. How are you liking your K1s, I love the look of my anthracite K1s on the black max, they look mean. I took pics yesterday and I am posting them as soon as I send them to my friend to host them.

I love the look too. Makes the car look really stealth. And it's not like those Konigs or MMs that are on every other car in the parking lot (at least not yet ) Nice and light too.

Only thing is that this finish has to be handled really carefully -- you'll have to keep an eye on the alignment shop (or put the stock rims back on for alignment).

How much were those Toyos and where did you source them?

Howl? And their brand new?

Maybe I haven't pressed them hard yet but so far they are reasonably quiet...

Hmm, mine aren't loud, but I am running 245/40/18's so I can't really compare. How much psi are you inflating them? I have 36psi in the front and 34 psi in the rear.

He means howling in the corner, like squealing of tires. Not droning noises in straight line driving. At least I assume thats what he meant, thats what I meant.

My Toyos are silent through the corners but at LOW speeds the tread groans alot, like when I'm coming to a stop.

My Kumhos are silent When I changed from Pirelli 7000 SSes, that ws the biggest difference. My pirellis would start to squel as you approached their grip limits. The Kumhos are much quieter. Now that I think about it a bit, I've only made my rears slide out, and when they do, I hear nothing, just feel. I haven't done much to cause the fronts to understeer on me yet. Hmmm.

As nealoc said, I am referring to the howl or squeal as the
tires approach their limits. These tires are actually extremely
quiet under normal driving conditions...too bad I don't care
about that . I would gladly trade that for some better behavior
when pushed. I guess I shouldn't complain too much about a tire
that costs $96.

dwapenyi, You said that your 712s don't aren't noisy when pushed...
Can you tell me what tire pressures you are running? thanks.

I have the Kumho 712's and I think they are pretty quiet, both in terms of road noise and at the limit handling "squealing" noise. If you had touring tires before your Kumhos then the contrast may be more noticable.

The quietest tire I have ever driven on is the Yokohamo Avid Db...on a 99 Camry, which itself is a very quiet car to begin with. Driving a Camry with those tires, its like the car isn't even on.
