And here comes some power!

Last week I opened up my stock intake a little. I made what I now call a GLSCAI (Good Looking Stock Cold Air Intake). My 99 has an elbow on the scoup that makes a 90 deg. turn and runs into a small black "dead box" under the battery tray. There's cool air down there, so after a bit of testing with the box removed, just to make sure it indeed does stay cool under there, I drilled a few holes in the back of that once sealed black air chamber. Put everything back together, looks like nothing was changed, but I have a bit less restrictive intake now. Dyno butt says I think this worked! Well today here in NJ it's damp and rainy. This morning I got caught behind a garbage truck, hate that.. He stops, there's traffic comming the opposite direction, I slow down, traffic passes, I gun it and HOLY SPLITIFRE BATMAN - My car broke traction almost immediately and the torque steer was so intense I had to hold onto the steering wheel. I'm like where did that come from? I even had the climate control on Auto, meaning the A/C compressor was running. I've never felt my baby take off like that, especially with the A/C running.

Cold air, and a less restrictive intake REALLY does make a huge difference with our Automagics.

Total cost for this mod..... KA-CHING $0.00
The payback - PRICELESS

Re: And here comes some power!

Glad that you feel that it worked. It certainly may have done a little bit for you, but nothing that you would actually notice on the butt dyno. But as long as you like it that's what counts! (By the way, your tires will break loose in the rain quite easily even when stock) Nice free mod just the same.

I can't imagine any intake making that big of difference.(unless its a tornado) Maybee it's just one of those days, when you car is super fast.

That things just an intake resonator. The whole purpose of that stupid thing is to quiet down the throaty sound of the intake(now why would nissan wanna do that?) You probably are catchin some cold air down there. Cut the whole thing off so the air feed in right there. I'tll probably sound better too.

Actually I found that the intake resonator does have a small purpose. When I first got my car I had dyno'd it w/ and with out that piece attached. For some reason W/out that piece the dyno came up 5hp and 7 lbs. tq less then when I had left it on. I ended keeping it on till I just got an actual intake.

so youre saying, stock intake shoudl leave the box on, but if you have an intake we could either modify or take it off?

and prp do you really drift your maxima

If it was up to me. Yes I'd leave the stock resonator box in place. Once I saw the dyno that made my decision. If you went to a after market intake it really doesn't matter if you have it on, Its pretty much useless to it after that point.

And I do try to drift my maxima around corners ever so often, but not tring to make a habit out of it.
