Short Shifter in 99 SE?

Hey i drove my friends car with a short shift in it the other day and loved every second of it. does anyone on this list prefer a short shift to stock? do all short shifts make clunky noises? what brand performs the best?

i like the shorter throw better. a popular brand is pacesetter, stay away from OBX, i have heard that their throws are almost as large as the stock.

I have the SMC, but Pacesetter is essentially the same thing. If you make sure to lubricate everything well you won't have any noises. Personally I never thought I would buy a STS, but after getting an ACT I felt I needed to. Now whenver I feel a stock Max shifter it feels like rowing a boat

who has the best deal on the pacesetter unit? do you recomend d-i-y, or having dealership install it?

Custommaxima.com has the Pacesetter. I always install everything myself, and this really isn't that hard as long as you can get the cat unbolted. If you do install it yourself make sure you use blue locktite on all the nuts and bolts. I had 2 nuts fall off even though I know I torqued them to spec. If you search you can find my old post.
