Going to get car tinted tomorrow, what do I need to know?
Going to get car tinted tomorrow, what do I need to know?
Hey guys, I'm going to get my baby tinted tomorrow. The place that I'm going to get it tinted at said they will do legal 35% (TN law, 35% on all but front), or darkest they will go is 30%. So I am most likely either going to get 35% on the sides and 30% in the back, or 30% all around. What do you suggest? I know I want it dark, but what I'm asking is whether it would look weird with different percentages from sides-->back. The price is $195 either way. Also, is the standard black tint the charcoal tint? He said I have a choice of four different color tints, I just don't remember what they were. And is there anything in particular I should ask before putting it in the shop?
Thanks for the help.

What color interior do you have? My car is Icelandic Pearl, but with black leather. I have 35% (legal in MD) and was pulled over because the officer said he could not see into the car. Nevermind it was sunny and he was looking down into a car with black interior. The other Max has 20%, Super Black and black leather, and has never been pulled over. And also is you decide to go darker, ask how much they will charge to remove the tint if you don't do it yourself, We paid $99.00 each for our cars and if the 20% needed to come off they would charge $50.00.

$195 for 30%....first off your gettin ripped. Second, that is not dark @ all & you will be able to see right in. I have 18% on my Max and wish it were somewhat darker. You can see in during the day a little but at night you can not. So it is up to you.
I had 35% on my 97 Max, it was way too light and looked crappy during the day. I had 5% on my 97 Eclipse and it was way too dark to see anything at all at night. I have 20% on my 99 Max and its perfect I think. Doesn't limit visibility too badly, and looks great.
Ah! Another person ruining thier max! I would NEVER go lighter than 5% all around. Anything else is just too light. My view is, if you can see inside the car, it is a waste. OF course, people come up with the standard excuses: its illegal, or i wont be able to see out side. First of all, im guessing your car is not legal as it is, plus you just roll the windows down when you see police. Second, tint is like wearing sunglasses. When you first put them on, everything is dark and you cant see. But, once your eyes get used to it, you forget they are there. Anyway, I know you wont listen to me, no one does, so if you MUST go for the light tint, at least make everything even. Or else, it looks kinda fugly, too me that is.

just make sure you don't get cheap tint which will fade in time; the better ones don't fade; also, it's not bad to pay what you're paying just don't accept anything short of a perfect job (this is hard to get) but when you pay top dollar and over 160 for a max is top dollar don't settle for creases and air spots anywhere; let them know this before they begin
i have the cheapest tint job on my car!!! its worth your while to spend a little more money on your tint! i paid $90 for mine it was done in the ghetto and the back window has 2 different types of tint!
around the edges you can see that there was no tint covering all the window. dont be such a miser like me be willing to spend a little more money!

Re: Going to get car tinted tomorrow, what do I need to know?
I hate to sound rude but just because the place has a good rep doesn't mean you should over pay, you should shop around...I paid $179 lifetime after taxes for 20% which is peerrrfect for my black on black max plus if your car is tan interior, expect it look lighter from the outside because there is more light reflecting in the car...do 20% youll thank yourself afterwards..oh yeah i live in cop central and never has oone cop said anything to me when I cruise my them everyday with 20% all around.
120 bucks 13% all around
i can get that deal if ur in San Diego!
or maybe 100 bucks 13% all around
lifetime warranty and if ya get a tiket they'll remove it and put a lighter tint on for free!

if i was you, i would get all black or all silver...195 is kind of high for a tint (got my half black half silver for 150) and that was last year so prices should have went down a little...either way i wouldn't pay no more than 150 for my tint but u don't need to know anything, just how dark u want it...since u got a black max, a dark shade would do fine....real dark....

Hey guys, thanks for all the advice...first of all, I can't get anything too dark because if I do get pulled over, my parents will go crazy on me, cuz I've already gotten a speeding ticket and they don't want any more trouble, second, i've called a few shops and most of them said they only do the 35% legal tint, I might ask this shop if he'll put 20% on for me, but I don't know if he would...and this is $195 with lifetime warranty...and I do plan on getting even tint all around, I was just asking in case, just to see what 35 sides and 30 back would be like...unfortunately i didn't get an appointment until saturday now, so I have to wait until then
thanks again for all your help guys
oh yeah, and TintDaMax, I would love to get 5% tint all around so no one could see in, but it's not feasible. I can't risk getting pulled over at all for it, second, I want to be able to see properly all the time, third, my parents won't pay for that dark. And btw, unfortunately, my car is still legal right now (if you don't count the Diamond Cuts)...i have no money for mods...waiting till after my summer job.

got mine tinted this past weekend - SunGuard titanium 35% all around - $145 - lifetime warranty... they would have done 20% for same price but I was worried about the night visibility, which isn't too good for me in the first place... if I were to do it again I'd probably go in the 20-30 range...
and then my stupid *** goes to a drive-thru a few hours later - I put the window back up real quick and then had girlfriend go out and pick the food up (hey - i was too close to the window to open the door) fortunately there are no bubbles/streaks...
