I was just thinking, anyone ever raced a 97' 5sp 328 with a 97' auto max? What was the result ?

Both cars have the same HP and Torue:
190HP and 205 torque.

I have and beat it pretty easily. I have some mods though. I'm an auto too btw.


Instead of asking, you go and race, only way to find out.

i've raced a 5spd 328is w/ intake and exhaust, i beat it but not by much, he got a better launch, i am 5spd by the way.

 

i have a feeling his 5-speed will be the deciding factor, and it will probably help him beat you by a couple cars. just get a y pipe, then race him.

 

Just freakin' race and let us know how it goes so we can try that too 3 series SUCK! If i ever had money for bmw then i will get a 540! or 745 (yea rite!). If you have money to waste then buy a 3 series. Otherwise souped up civic will be an even match for 3 series.

Crap man, why not just race him and find out what happens? Unless you've got money or reputation running on the race...in which case, I'd spend at least 600 to put in a can of whoop a$$ gas (NOS). That'll surprise the hell outta him.

 

my friend has a 98 and he was behind me at a light and we started to go and he passed me with no prob=( im auto with cai and muffler and i had a system and he was all stock 5-speed.....

 

i thought 328s were heavier than the max. I could swear seeing somewhere in the magazine the 328 running upper 15s. I think u have a good chance even though he's 5spd.

 

I think that you will beat him, purely because he is heavier and also rear wheel drive. Power loss to the rear wheels.............

RWD setup is BMW's advantage, not the other way around.

 

Well my friend is getting his car in a couple of days so thats when i'm going to race him. I'll keep you guys posted. Even if i lose, its okay, a 5sp Max is waiting for me to pick it up soon

 

RWD may be BMW's advantage in take off but not while you are rolling.
the max would get more power to the wheels or atleast equal considering 5spd for BMW but then we still have the weight advantage.

The 0-60 times for a 328 5spd varies from the low to mid sixes. Once I saw a time for a 328is 5spd that was 6.3. The sedan isn't that far behind....those things are fast....A 5spd 4th gen might beat it....but if you're an auto you will get smoked....sorry....

Ok- go look up times for the 97 328i/s 5spds. They will range from 6.3-6.7. Maxims 4th gen auto? Well the fastest auto time I've ever seen was 7.6- and that was in '95- the fastest 4th gen year. You will be eating his dust. I've driven a 97 328i 5speed and I think my modded 5 spd would have a tough time winning. Those Bimmers are fast. So go race him and get left in the dust...wish I could see it. Be sure to turn your OD off!!!!

Who's hating who? I seen you posted in the past, and you always have been pretty hard on auto Maximas. You're the one who's making fun of auto Maxima in your post above. So again, who's hating. I think it's just you.


Why would I hate because you have a 5spd? I'll be doing a conversion in the future.


Like I said, maybe you need to learn to drive better? I know 5spd guys on the board such as TheBlue, Nealoc187, VQDriver, and others should have no problems at all with a 5spd 328.

 

Btw, I'm speaking from experience. I have raced against 5spd 328 numerous times and beat them. Yes I had mods and they were stock. No excuses too, a win is a win.

Ok say what you want.......Oh and BTW I know how to drive...trust me....I;ve never raced a 328...but I did drive one once and it was really really fast... Is this a stock auto vs. a stock manual 328? If it is then it's laughable. A 5spd 328 is like 6.4 to 60. I've never seen any faster time for a 4th gen Maxima than 6.6- and that was a manaul version in the fastest year. So based on facts that's why I say that even a manual Max might lose. So say what you want but the facts speak for themselves.....

 

I agree that he will lose, I'm not going to argue that. As far as him getting smoked, well he'll have to find out for himself. Fact? Sure I believe that. However, when you race anything can happen, so you never know. I'm done, this is pointless.

Isn't that the same thing? To me it is. To me getting smoked is getting beaten by about 2 car lengths or more- with the winner pulling away as the speeds increase- which is what I think would happen in that race. So if you guys thought that I meant the BMW would make the Max a teeny-a$$ dot in the rear view mirror in a matter of 2 milliseconds you misunderstood me. I think the BMW would win by a fairly large margin...but you guys just don't consider that getting "smoked" while I do. Fair enough.

A 5sp will not SMOKE me. a "SMoke" is what happens when a 4cyl accord races a maxima 5sp. And i dont know where your getting your info from but a 328is has a 0-60 time in high six's. My friend times his own car and got 7.0 . The new 330ci 5sp does the 0-60 in 6.2 and your telling me a 97 can do it in 6.4?

Either way, this post was just for comments, no need to argue. And thsi is not one of thsoe "should i race" posts. Yes i will be racing just as soon as he gets his car.

 

Good thing he doesn't have to break it in, so you can race him the same day and let us know

 

A stock 5sp max will have NO problem beating a 5sp 328is.
