Immediate help with O2 sensor needed

Help! How do I remove the (right bank, I believe -- against the firewall) oxygen sensor and the complete pigtail up to the connector? The wire runs through a tight area up against the firewall that's too small to run the sensor or the coupler through! Am I supposed to cut the wire(s)? What kind of design is THAT?

I tried removing the wires from the coupler, but it's one-piece construction won't let me...

I'm trying to remove it so I can use Daniel Martin's "burn the deposits" possibility, because I think my sensors are tired (sluggish with no CEL, and all tuneups done).

Remove the sensor from underneath... disconnect the harness from above the engine... IIRC it's on the front (passenger side) of the engine by the rear valve cover... Routing the new harness back is the hard part.

See my post: I cannot get the entire Sensor-wire-connector off the engine because the wires pass between two metal, immobile tubes, and the space is too small to pass the sensor or the connector through.

My question is this: Am I supposed to cut the wire?? When I buy a new one, will it be the entire sensor-wire-connector setup, or do I have to splice it onto the old connector?

I did this last night and I cut the wire to get it out. (the tabs are the hardest part) then I just lowered the new 02 sensor down, screwed it in, plugged in the connector on top and off to better gas mileage I went.

When you say you cut the wire, do you mean you actually cut the WIRE? Or did you cut the tabs to FREE the wire?

Let me describe my situation, as it seems you understand what I'm going through here. I have been able to disconnect by sensor from at the coupler on the manifold. I have been able to remove the sensor itself from the exhaust pipe (right bank, near the firewall). I have been able to remove the plastic tabs that hold the wire sheath in place. What I have NOT been able to do is remove the sensor from the car. The wires and their sheath pass through an area (a gap between two metal tubes) that I cannot fit the connector NOR the sensor through. I want to be able to remove the whole thing from the car in order to try Daniel Martin's rejuvenation technique. Cutting the wire would be fine if I were just throwing away an old sensor, but I'm not doing that. I want it to be intact so I can put it back in the car.

Yes you should be able to remove it without cutting the sensor/harness... You will have to slide it around until you find enough space... I removed it without cutting it... but I can't remember the exact details...

Oh ok. I was replacing mine so I just cut the wire.
