Choice of rims?

I have both of the following rims, I need to sell one set, which would you keep. Pics are below.

First brand new Volk TE37 17" with Kuhmo 235/45/17 tires, worth a lot of money if sold, brand new, very light ~12 pounds.

Giovanna Geneva 18X8.5 rims with Perelli's, used for about a year. I will be getting a black max. I think these rims are twice the weight of the Volk, but they look better on the car.

car is 5spd. and black, how much does the weight of the wheels determine the speed? What would you guys do? sell the volks and keep teh giovannas for looks or vice versa, thanks.

sell both and get some simple five spoke rims. imho, 5 spoke rims look the best on a max.

and you can probably get a real nice amount for those volks...

If you're interested in speed (which you are obviously with a 5spd), go with the Volks. They are much lighter, stronger, and have a better name as well. If you are going for looks however, definitely go with the Giovannas. They will slow you down however.

im going to have to agree w/ black019
the volk racing rims are sweet no doubt about it, but not only are they 17's, they dont look too great on a max. i saw a picture of 18's on a max and unfortunately, they dont look that great either(i was planning on buying some 18's myself) i'd sell both of the rims and buy some 5 spoke rims. look at supermachoman's sig. 5spokes look really nice on maximas

well i say, unless you want to drag, don't worry about lightweight wheels. i'm going for the heavy 17" oems. but as long as i can still punk out ricers on the go, then ill be happy. but i can kiss the stoplight crusades good bye.

Those Giovannis are actually a sweet looking rim, a copy of the Volk LE-37. You have to decide whether you want speed or looks. Personally I'd go with the Volks, but you've got to dump those crappy Kumhos if you do hehe. Those Giovannis will look ba-dass though.

That you would have to test for yourself, unless you could find somebody with both. After all, each car is different and even each wheel regardless of whether they weigh the same or not. Your Giovannas could have the majority of their weight on the lip since it's a show wheel, but like I said they only way to find any real difference is to try it yourself.

Well, I'd say since they're twice the weight of the volks, your car would be half as fast with the giovannis.

wouldnt wheels slow you down A LOT no matter what you do to make your car fast? if the outside of the rim is heavy, youre gonna be slower. DAG im scared to put oem 17's on!

anyone with the oem 17's - can you gimme an idea?

OEM wheels are heavy and will slow you down. 24+ lbs.

Brodaiga sorry I didn't mean to be an @ss, I just wanted to be specific. And since the Giovannas are heavy seeing what you said, they will slow you down considerably, especailly against the Volks which are relatively light. In 0-60MpH I went from 6.88 seconds with a very light 17" wheel to 7.02 with a relatively heavy 17" chrome wheel.

I went fro OEM 15'to aftermarket raceing 17's and slowed quite a bit... then I changed going from Perelli Asemetricos 235 17 to some 225 17's and there is a performance boost.... Just a long story that should have been kept short.

does anyone know where most of the weight is on the stock 17's? im figuring alloys are heavy usually so maybe the outside RIM isnt especially heavy? the spokes might have a part in the heaviness. but even so, maybe itll kill acceleration either way. thanks
