altima bites the dust

well on the way home from school, some stupid altima was riding my *** (i was already doing like 75, speed limit = 55)...and i was like oh ya, so i took off, and he tried to keep up, but i ended up doing 120 the whole way home (governor limited )...but then i turned overdrive off, and it revved higher, and i actually climbed to about 123 before it stopped again....stupiud ECU.....but ya, altima ended up way many cars behind....atleast 25

How is it that your ECU has a speed limiter (governor) with an SE? An SE ECU should not have a speed governor.

When's the last time you changed your feul filter? I had top speed problems when I 1st got my car. replaced my feul filter and my car went all the way.

For what it's worth, I've noticed the exact same thing in my 96 SE. Seems very much like a governor, I think if it were the fuel filter, it would just slow down the acceleration in the top end. And my top end is excellent, the car pulls steady from 80 to 115, then it just kinda dies. At 120, it sounds like a rev limiter at about 4000 - 4500 RPMs.

I have a 97 GXE and I've gotten it up to 130...couldn't go any faster only because I got scared...

I thought I had a governor, but I guess I don't!

What makes a car have a governor? I thought it was all GXE's, but apparently not....

It's easy .. . well, depends. Do you have ABS?? If you have ABS, it can be quite hard, if you don't, then it's easy. ABS makes it hard b/c all the ABS lines are get in the way.

Here's the instructions;

Yeah, C$C and Power Driver's Seat.
I was told by someone on this board that ALL GXE's had a governor, which is why I was totally surprised when I hit 120....125...130...

Get a 300Z Filter. Look in the Max Maintenance FAQ for the part number.

While it doesn't improve performance, it DOES last twice as long because of more surface area....

Courtesy Nissan sells them.

I did a search and found it right away.

16400-N7600JP

That's the last time I'm letting someone be lazy and not making them search themselves.

I always seem to say that.....

Its easy if you have small arms. I had scrapes and bruises all over my forearms after changing mine out.

Ian, FYI, GXE's with the C&C package don't have the limiter. That explains you.

I can't however, explain why two people in this thread claim to have SE's with limiters. Either someone tricked you into thinking you had an SE when you bought the car, or there is some other problem that is not the ECU. I suggest checking your VIN numbers using the decoder to make sure you have an SE...

Only a few 95-96 GXE's have governors, it makes me glad I gave the GXE to my sister and bought the 99SE.
It is also in the FAQ

I have ABS and I managed to change my fuel filter without jacking the car up. It's kind of cramped and hard, but doable.

It may be slightly different, but I was able to change ebmorgan's I30 with ABS without jacking up the car also.
