Mpg Freeway Only!

I need to know what strictly freeway driving at about 80 mph will get me for mileage, and range on a tank of gas. I have a 5 spd, but numbers for autos are fine too.

Please give me definitive answers! About to a 1000 mile trip, and I need to budget for gas!

I get about 650km/tank, also a 5spd.
Do the US conversions and you can figure it out.

25-30 mpg depending on your driving style and if you have the air on. Also depends on your ability to fight the urge to go FASTER than 80...

Behold, I am the MPG master.

I've measured this MANY MANY times using accurate methods.

For us auto guys, the ABSOLUTE BEST we can do is 33. If you do several spirited passings, this number will drop. This number is with no luggage and no passengers.

But 5spds have higher RPM in cruisin speed, however, you should get at least 30mpg on the highway. If you are carrying people or heavy luggage, MPG will drop significantly.

My mileage posted was with a load of luggage and 4 full siized adults heading out tp OK from NYC. I also ran a constant 75 - 80 mph. I also do Boston to DC runs non-stop running the same 75 - 80 mph.

74mph Cruise Control, occasional passing with OD off.

...I get 29-30mpg with 2 adults, and load of sh*t in the trunk and in the back seat. Outside temp would be from 60-95(!, Death Valley, NV).

All stock, 97 GXE Auto at that time. Now, I could do 30-31mpg with the Stillen Cone Filter...

This is with 99.9% highway (only stops to refuel exits).

Good luck and happy roadtripping!

I drove from VA-CO on Sun&Mon and it was 4 full tanks for about 1700 miles. That includes the passing of stupid people, construction, and driving through cities. It was just me, w/ about 400lbs of ****.

Oh yeah, 99SE 5-Speed w/ the sunroof deflector taken off...that thing is pretty loud when you are just cruising on the highway.

450 to a full tank - consistently.

Agreed - no math. 2-3 a week I fill the tank, I set the trip meter to 0 and it consistently goes to 450 before I need a refill.

How can there be any consistancy, you are not doing any math.

You have to divide the total miles driven by the number of gallons used. 450 miles, how many gallons did you use?

I kept a good record of gas mileage when I did a trip to california recently. I averaged about 80mph with 3 people and luggage, no a/c on either. Average was about 27mpg.

cruise control @ 72 to 78

My '99 SE 5 speed usually gets 30 mpg when I do all highway driving. I keep records for tax purposes for all my driving and the 30 mpg for interstate cruising is normal. If the speed limit is 65, I set the cruise @ 72. If the speed limit is 70, I set the cruise @ 78. This seems to make for easy driving and no speeding tickets. Usually I'm driving alone or maybe with one passenger and not too much of a load in the trunk.

Recently on a 3000 mile roadtrip, I averaged around 27-28mpg on the highway. This was driving at speeds between 70-85, with AC on the whole time. Two other passengers and the a trunk full of luggage.
