4th Gen - urgent!!

I have a 99 Maxima SE CDN automatic with trac control and LSD.

For some reason the tranny has been shifting very erradically and clunking in to gear.

And to top it all of, both the traction control and slip indicators turned on at the same time indicating a malfunction.

The car has about 126,000 kms on it and has been excellently cared for.

Took it in to Nissan today and they said a weird code appeared and that the car requires a computer replacement for the tranny or something. In any event, the part costs 2500 dollars CDN according to the dealership.

Is this correct? What could cause this?? Any insights??

Pull the codes from the ECU and the TCM yourself and tell us what they are. Then we may be able to help you.

Search for the procedures, if you dont know them.

I had my tranny controller quit on me in my 99. Thank god it was still under warranty. The entire ECU was replaced, needed the keys reprogrammed too. Is this what Nissan is telling you?

Well picking up the car today, so i will find out exactly what went wrong.

mztg... You had all that done to your car?? what symptoms did your car exhibit??

Traction control failure, abrupt and inconsistent shifting and clunkage??

Dealer says this is the first time they ever came across this problem..
