I hate cats
Thought I would vent some agression. I was driving out from work for lunch today and a cat ran in front of my car. This was on base, so I was only going about 30 mph, but i swerved as to not kill the animal and scraped the curb on my sidewall and my tire exploded and my rim got a little bruised too SO now I gotta get new tires again after just forking over 300 to get a new slave cylinder. On top of that my crossover just died and it feels like my clutch is dying. I hate being a college student and havin no funds. Now Im over a grand in debt and its all due to that ****king cat Oh yea if anyone wants to buy my other tire- check out the F/s section 225/45/17 pirelli p7000 ss

Okay, so you would choose some damaged suspension parts and some bent rims to avoid cat in the road?
I have to apologize, but somehow that baby squirrel story was funny as hell. I think you should give that squirrel a name...like thumper or something.

That depends on what animal. I would never run over a cat. Although I did run over a baby squirrel a couple of days ago. I was doing ~60mph, and there was a baby squirrel right in the middle of my lane. It was starring right at me, and we made eye contact. I was like ok, I can just go right over it and not harm it, but the damn thing darted to the side right as I was about to pass it, and I ran over it. I looked at the rearview, and it was tumbling down the road. My gf almost cried.(I almost did too)

It was just so sad feeling a bump, and watching Thumper bouncing down the road. At firt I thought he was running(following me), but then I realized he was doing cartwheels.

I had the same mentality until I realized I had burned a bigger hole in my wallet. Usually I would say **** it. I once hit 2 baby squirrels at the same time (1 w each tire.) That damn cat is fine. I for one thought i could avoid it wout hitting the curb and 2) didnt want to incur some large fine from an MP for slaughtering some general's feline in front of a bunch of people. But after reassesing the situation I would hit just about any animal if it meant not fuccking up my car

...sorry to hear about all the trouble, but don't you think it's streching things a bit to complain about having no funds when you're driving around on $2k (or so) worth of tires & wheels that you really didn't need ?

A few months ago, I saw a cat sitting with his head down on one of the lines between the lanes. He was still alive, but I think he was just freaked out because of all the cars driving by. Anyways, some guy in an SUV intentionally switched lanes right over the cats head. It was pretty grim watching a cats head explode...
Still...if I see an animal on the road, I usually chase it down even if its running away...heh its usually just raccoons and coyotes around here anyways.
Honking sometimes helps...

tru but i got the max w rims on it and tinted out for $8,5
BTW- the master and slave cylinders are what engage the clutch. The slave is less expensive. I had a booty call in DC about a week ago and in the morning I found myself outside of GW university with esssentially NO working clutch. THat was a fun ride home.

What kind of comment is that? Someone with tires and wheels that originally cost $2000 can't be broke?

The point of my comment was to illustrate that if you don't have a lot of money, perhaps spending $2K on something you don't really NEED might not be a wise thing.
As it turns out, he bought the car with the tires & wheels for only $8.5K (lucky b****rd) .
I'd delete my original post, but then everyone's response to would also disappear - correct???

Regardless, I still don't understand your comment. Even if he bought the car for $8500 with stock rims and tires, then went out and put down his own $2000 on new rims and tires, he could still currently be broke today. What do past purchases have to do with current expenses?

I would never put MY life or the life of someone in my car in danger when it comes to having to avoid small animals. I might slow down and honk the horn but I'm not about to swerve.....well the only small animal I would avoid would be a skunk.....hitting a skunk is NOT fun

Notice that I said - IF you don't HAVE a lot of money...and not if you DIDN'T have......
He's a student (as you are - maybe I've touched a nerve, here) and it's pretty hard to believe that one would think that a student's financial situation would improve substantially while still in school.
Past purchases are one of the reasons you have current expenses. What you spent in the past has a definite impact on your current financial situation.
Oddly enough, you seem to be much more upset by my original post than James was.

Re: Re: Re: Re: :o)
Im not upset bc I didnt buy the rims, they came w the ride. I have however had to buy 2 sets of tires now for whatever reasons. I think its just good to know that unexpected expenses do come up and it really blows bc I just blew another 600$ i was gonna use to lower my car.

It's as if your logic is that he should never have bought rims and tires (in the past) because he may (in the future) swerve into a curb because a cat will cross his path. You told him he had no right to complain about his 'cat damage' because he made a past purchase. That's absurd. Like I said, a past purchase is irrelevent to a current expense. But, anyway, no, I'm not upset. As I hope you aren't.

Hell, my household income is close to $100k, we live in a small house and don't have any big debts aside from the mortgage - (I drive a 95SE with very minimal mods) - and I can't afford $2K worth of aftermarket wheels & tires.
OK, I'll admit it - I'm just jealous

I think it was on this board, or maybe cardomain that a guy posted about how his sister had this psycho cat that would constantly harass him. It owuld run up to him and scratch his bare feet all the time, make loud noises all night, and run around the countertops tipping things over.
One day, he was walking across his house in his bear feet and the cat lunged from under the couch at him. He instinctively kicked in the cats direction trying to stop the onslaught that was coming in his direction.
he hit the cat just right on the chin, and broke it's neck.
All he could do was apologize to his sister.
My point: None.

I like cats, so I would do my best to avoid hitting one. However, if it came down to the car or the animal, the animal will get hit. That a$$hole in the SUV who weant out of his way to hit the thing is another story. If I saw him do it that f#ucker would be upside down in a ditch praying that POS he drives doesn't explode.

Just my .02
And as an FYI - I have 3 cats, my wife and I don't have kids, our cats are our kids. I'd be crushed if one was hit by a car because someone didn't feel like swerving.

Anyway, as a cat lover I'd like to thank JamesAvery for swerving. If I had the money I pay for the damage. Unfortunately I'm a college student too...and desperately trying to graduate #^@#^%@!#%@#&!

I still think you're missing the point MC. Why is it odd that he'd complain about being broke? The kid is broke. Period. What's odd about that? I spent about $900 on rims and tires two years ago. I am also a college student (as you pointed out) and I only make $18/hour. If I had an unexpected expense tomorrow (such as paying my $500 deductible if someone hit me say), I would have no right to be upset/complain? Because two years ago I bought something I didn't need? That's not logical man.
