i think that takes the cake for the ugliest Nissan. Hopefully this is just an early prototype. Kinda looks like a butchered 2002 Altima crossed with an Infiniti G35.. The taillights aren't that bad

That thing is so UGLY... UUUUGGGGGGLLLLLLLYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!

So ugly it was obviously designed in Japan. Whenever I see photos from auto shows in the car magazines these days, the Japanese concept cars tend to be stupidest looking ones.

I can see that all they did was take a pre-existing G35 and change the body with all stupid ugly designs.

In some strange way it kinda reminds me of the new 7 series Bimmer. Don't ask why....Maybe it's the profile or the rims.

Well not actually quad exhaust but its dual exhaust with quad tips. There's a difference.

I bet it's an Altima.
Probably a refreshed look for 2004.
Looks exactly like an Alty in shape.

The car is only a prototype with parts of other cars so no one would no what it is. The engine, and maybe even the set up of the interior is closer to production look. The new max won't look like the altima because the infiniti g35 has already done that except for the change of headlights and a few things here and there (luxury of infinity too).

The '04 max is supposed to be a less luxourious infiniti m45 which will be out 10/02 out, not an altima. ..... Don't be so tough on the guys from nissan, you all know what type of product that put out, have a little more faith than that, if not do the research and don't trust a spy pic of a proto type with the body moldings of at least three different cars to throw off its compititors if they were to see the real thing.

ummm...that looks like an early, ugly a$$ prototype of the Altima. I really hope Nissan doesn't ruin the MAX this way. It makes me want to

there is no transition from the 5th gen to this thing it looks like something totally different--they might as well name it something else. this thing has nothing good about it. I say they burn it and start over since they still got some time? god please don't let that be the new max

I hope
I hope it has AWD, full ind. suspension, better brakes, and internals strong enough for boosting, and I hope it does not look like that!

Eventhough everyone is complaining about how ugly the car is, I bet everyone will be extremly satisfied with the product that nissan puts out for its 6th generation maxima('04). Especially with v-8 RWD engine set-up!!!

kwamdoo does have a point there. although this 04' Max (if it even is the max prototype) looks ugly right now...i still have faith in Nissan...they haven't failed me yet. i can see myself getting that ugly car if its v8 AWD. but it'll have to undergo serious modification.

What were these guys smokin' when they built this thing? A disgrace to the clean lines of the 4th & 5th gen cars...I thought something that bad could only come out of a German automobile factory.

Edmunds has a preview article on the M45 with some decent pics.
M45

The only similarity I can see is in the trunk.

I guess when the new maxima comes out Infiniti will discontinue the I35.

I don't think Infiniti will stop making the I35, they need something to compete w/ the ES300, Acura TL, and any other entry level luxury sedan

I just hope that the upcoming Maxima will look a hell of a lot better than the one in the pics, until then I'm keeping my '98 SE
