Re: XBox $200!!!

I was shocked when my bro told me the other day! Especially the Xbox... the technology is still near cutting edge. And why $100? Why not $50? Was Nintendo gaining market share with their budget system?

Nope...PS2 dropped their price because their system is over 1.5 years old, and Microsoft has the money backing to be able to match them for it, that's all.

Microsoft never intended to make any money off the XBox. If you went out and bought all the Hardware Components in the XBox (733MHz Proc, RAM, 10 GB HDD, Motherboard, Geforce3 Video, USB Bus, etc, etc) it would cost you a bit over the $299 the XBox first came out with. They're losing money every time they sell one.

They hope to make it all back selling games and rights.

This is from the mouth of a friend of mine here in Seattle who works on the XBox team.
