I finally got to removing the gay-looking dealer-installed pinstripes off the side of my white 99 yesterday. The car looks great without them, but I can't get the adhesive the pinstripes left behind off. I have used turtle wax bug and tar remover along with dishwashing and other detergents, but I can't really get all of the sticky stuff to budge. Does anybody have any suggestions that won't harm the clear coat?

I used a sunny day, a blow dryer, goo gone, my fingernails, and patience, followed by a good waxing.

If anyone knows the answer to this please tell, id really like to know too

I too use Goo Gone. You can also use some RM-901, but keep it to a minimum, and wash it off afterwards. You'll also need to wax the area afterwards, as 901 and Goo Gone will take the wax away. Just use nice, soft cloth or paper towels, and a lot of rubbing. The glue will come off. Dont' wait too long to do it though, once the stripe is removed from the glue, the glue starts hardening up bad.

You might think this is strange, but use a pencil eraser. The pink one.

Auto Body shops use a high speed device called an eraser to remove decals from cars. It's a disc shapped eraser that snaps on a dremmel tool. Works like a charm and will not harm the paint either.

I just used a can of foam glass cleaner and a rag....it's all I had at the moment. anyway, it worked great and with no damage.

tar and bug remover works good as well

baby oil or mineral oil takes adhesive off too. but the key is RUBBING..

Goo Gone should work. 3M also has an adhesive remover. You'll probably need to polish after removing it to blend everything in afterwards (of course followed by a good wax). I wouldn't use papertowels on any painted part of my car. They are made from wood (paper) and will put a lot of hairline scratches in the clear coat. I learned this from experience once. Let me know how your car looks without them, as mine is a white '97 with beige pin stripes. Good luck with it.

Kmart sells it, as do most hardware stores.

hell i just used rubbing alchol to remove the tape that was stuck on my trunk after "shaving" the nissan emblem and the word maxima off the back. i still rubbed real hard and then waxed after it. i see no dammage.

don't use rubbing alcohol on your baby!!

A little lighter fluid might be worth a try. Make sure you wash your car afterwards.

how did you get your pin stripes off? i tried the hairdryer technique for a good 20 minutes and couldn't move it at all.

The Eastwood Co. makes a pinstripe eraser. It's round and mounts in an electric drill. I've never used it, so who knows if it works. http://www.eastwoodcompany.com/cgi-bin/sgsh0101.exe

3M makes an automotive adhesive remover, but you can only get it at an automotive paint supply store.
