Ok I'm getting on the freeway this morning and the left lane merges into my lane on the on ramp. I'm next to a new VW Passat and I hate when people try to merge in front of you with no cars around so when the light turned green I nailed it. Completely stock 99 SE auto. He was half a car length in front of me at the light before we even started and had the inside shorter turn to make at the light to get on the on ramp. With neither one of us letting up I was even with him at the bottom of the on ramp. Now I just looked up the spec on the Passat. If it was a V6 then he two cars are even in torque and HP but I did not see the V6 logo on the left rear corner of the trunk (That's where it is on my wife's car) so I assume it was a 4 banger with the turbo (Spec is 170 HP and 166 ib. feet of torque) I should of been able to get by him by the end of the on ramp. What happened? Where does the Maxima make most of it's HP?

Wish I had my other car then I would of blown his doors off!

 

He could have been a chipped 4cyl. $500 for this gets them 40hp and up to 70lb-ft with no other mods.

It was one of the new W8 Passats! If memory is correct, they are around 280 HP, that would explain a lot. And if it had 4 motion, even more reason why you got spanked.

 

I think he would have seen the W8 symbol where the VR6 one usually is. Also I don't think 4motion would help in that type of situation, only from a standstill to get more traction and no wheel slip. When your already moving it just weighs you down (unless it was raining/snowing etc.). If it had the 1.8t motor and a chip I wouldn't be surprised if he started leaving you. I almost got an A4 1.8t quattro before I got my Max but the higher price, insurance, less room and lower reliability w/mods made me go with the Max.

 

Mzmtg, No excuse here but other car is an 86 T-type. He would not of had a chance.

 

The W8 has 4 chrome exhaust tips, hard to miss.

 

You probably raced a Passat 1.8T. Believe it or not, those things are just as quick as the VR6. If it was a 5-speed, then it's even a better match up with the max. In the next 6-months, the W-12 Paetheon is coming out with 360 hp. You better watch out for those bad boys.

 

just to be slightly ****, the passat does not have a VR6, thats only the Jettas and Golfs and I think the older Passats. The new Passat has the V6 (not narrow angle like the VR6) Audi engine

my girl has a audi a4 1.8t quattro(5spd)... she tries to race me all of the time, but she has never been able to beat me... 1st gear is even.... but 2nd and 3rd i pull on her... maybe autos are different... but my 5spd spanks her...then when we get home, i spank her...lol

 

if she ever gets a chip for that turbo, she'll be spanking you, for sure
