97 maxima how to remove YELLOW in taillights?

I understand there is a way to remove the yellow in the 97 maxima taillights? Is it easy and is it reversable?

If you don't know what your doing, I would suggest going to custommaxima.com. They sell them done for about $200 for the pair. Then you still have your stock to swich back later on. To many people crack them trying and end up buying new ones anyway.

Or you can ask SprintMax to make you some for $190 I think it was? He does a damn good job, I dont have the pics since his server is down but just ask him.

I cleared my won taillights, and had no problems.

On suggesstion:

Use an oven at 200 degrees for 8 minutes, remove the taillights from the oven, and use oven mitts or a towel to pull the taillight apart. If it won't come easily, put it in the oven for another 2 mintues, and try again....then 2 morem inutes if needed until it works.

Face the lense down in the oven.

They should come apart like butta. WAY easier than using a blowdryer, and way less chance of cracking the lense with a screwdriver trying to pry it.

be careful not to melt the lense. i put my rear sidemarkers in the oven at about 200 degrees (mayve a bit less) to get some moisture out of them and they melted and became deformed. i recommend putting them on a cookie sheet or something flat so the bars of the oven rack dont make any indentations.

Agreed. To each his own, tho. Personally, I think altezzas should be thrown in the nearest lake.
Furthermore, to the original poster:

Your telling people who obviously enjoy working with there cars, since there on this sight, that this simple mod is too much work.

If it was an honest question, use the search feature. This is discussed once a week and twice on holidays.

what are you talking about? he asked about making red/clears and decided that it looked like a lot of work so he said he just might buy altezzas instead. where was he trying to sell something>

My apologies then.

I should be more understanding, but i distinctily remember you first post on the ORG which was plainly an ad. Not only that but it was in the 4th Gen Forums, not the sale forums. I didn't say anything bad about your company, but it seemed to me the only reason to bring it up was to pimp the ones ya'll sell.

Maybe I've just seen this discussed so many times I assumed that you knew most people don't like them, but some do. I'll take down my posts.

We have been selling these bulbs for over a year now and we have not had one person claim their wiring was burned out. I use Naxos bulbs in my own MAXIMA 97 along with all my friends: BMW/ACURA etc...

I'm not saying burn outs don't occur? There is always a car out there that had bad wiring in the first place. For people who are super cautious we have WIRING HARNESS UPGRADE KITS.

We now carry the purple ones too!

THANK YOU!!!

I've been looking for a better write-up then this one.
http://www.seas.ucla.edu/~cheston/rearlights.htm

I mean it's a good write-up and all. But when I do write-up's I make them so anyone can do them. I also take a zillion pics and do a step by step process. That write-up I knew about wasn't the strongest I've seen.

I appreciate you posting that.

Funny how everybody here doesn't like altezzas. I have some and I have gotten tons of compliments from people that I don't even know. Also, now my car gets some respect and people don't see it as an old person family car (which was kind of nice since it was the ultimate sleeper but I like the agressive look). Personally I think that the opinion on altezzas is decided on the fact of how old you are. Teens and propably many people in the 20s like them, after that not many.
Thanks,
Paul

That reminds me... I once met a guy with Altezzas on his Civic - he tried to tell me that the only reason he had them was because they were 5 lbs. lighter than the stock tails!
