question about exhausts...

i am planning to get either the apexi or greddy exhaust for my 97 max. first question is, i heard that the y pipe is good to get for increase in hp..now do i have to get that first then get the greddy or apexi catback installed or is it ok if i decide to get the catback exhasut system first and then later on add the y-pipe? i've heard people say get y-pipe first, is this because if you get catback first then y-pipe cannot be installed?
second question is i went to a dealer today and he told me that if i was to get the apexi ws catback then i would also need to have built like 2-3 inch tube or pipe because it is not long enough or soemthing...is this true?
and sorry last question...apexi and greddy are they both stainless steal....thats what i want...cause if its not then after time wont it look bad like rusting???
thank you guys for helping me out...i have recently started to modify my car....so lot of quesitons..sorry if stupid

If you do the y-pipe first it will free up the flow nicely, but your exhaust will still be restricted by the rest of the stock system. The reason people probably say get the Y first is because its cheaper. If you get the cat-back first it wont matter, you can still install a Y later.

I doubt that Greddy or A'pexi would sell an exhaust that is too short.

Y-pipe prices depend on the company. I think you can snag a warpspeed for about $100-150 (guessing as I havent been in the market for one) and the $tillen one will run you probably about $250-300.

If the A'pexi is too short Im sure it wouldnt be a hassle for the exhaust shop to make you some pipe and install it for you.
