Low idle in "R"

When going into "R" my idle goes as low as 400rpm and I can feel the engine shake, is that normal?

This is w/ an Auto. trans

The low idle only happens in "R"? In "D" your ok?

This is a wild guess -

Your ECU must adjust the idle speed to compensate for the slight load on the engine when your car is in gear. So perhaps the switch or signal from the shifter which alerts the ECU to R,D,2,1 isn't working in the "R" position.
I'll check the Haynes manual to see if there are references to signals or switches on the shifter or the tranny.

try cleaning your throttle body...

and idle-air-control valve...when these get dirty, and your car is in the low RPMs, the engine struggles a little because of the dirt.

give it a try!

My throttle body is clean, but how do i clean the IAC? I did a search on here and couldn't find anything. Do i just shoot throttle body cleaner into the IAC inlet tube?

Yeah, I was confused about this one too...when I went back, I noticed that the IACV sits in a "bracket" with three bolts...its pretty simple when you take a good look at it.

When I cleaned mine, it was FILTHY!!!!

sorry I can't give you more advice, but, if I get pics, I'll post!

take care,

Yep, just in "R". "D" I'm ok, Idle is about 500-600rpm in "D"
