I am really surprised at the amount of people who baby their cars on this forum. Seems like people are talking about speed and aesthetic improvements all the time, but once they are on the road, most .org members really cool it. I think less than half the responses claimed to exceed 5k on a daily basis.
I redline at least 3 times daily, and go above 5k much more frequently than that. And these numbers are for a 10 mile drive to school. Whenever i drive longer distances, the number of times i redline increases proportionately. the maxima engine is built to pull very strongly from 4000-6600 rpm, so i let it. sometimes i'll just shift from 5 to 3 for no reason and run the car to redline in 3rd. it doesn't go much above 100 there, but it is cool to think of triple digit speeds in 3rd gear.

If you are talking about the 4th gen Engine, you are wrong. I have a Dyno to prove it. Without the Variable Intake, the car loses hp and tq VERY quickly after 5200 RPM's.Originally posted by Reed94SE

The Red run is without the Variable Intake installed (stock with a Pop-Charger)
The Blue is with the Variable Intake.
As you can see, the stock maxima sucks over 5200 RPM's, which is the exact reason everyone is buying them. Now if you're talking about a 5-speed 3rd Gen, then you're right, because they have a Variable Intake stock.

big big big big big big differenceI reguarly take my car into the 5K range when playing around. I consistently get 26mpg (50/50 driving). I rarely take it up to or past 6K unless I'm really trying to have fun on a highway entrance ramp. With as much torque as the VQ has, you rarely need to go above 4K in 1st and 2nd to get away from a light at a VERY quick pace.
FYI, operating an engine below redline is going to do no harm to this engine. Internally, the VQ is extremely stout and it's made to run hard and for extended periods. The most abusive thing you can do to your car is to shift hard, especially the 1-2. When I wind out 1st to 6500 on the street, I slowly shift to 2nd. I don't bang the shift unless I'm on the track.
