Maybe every other day. I never really needed the power to pass people, its just fun. I like that pull you get. I think when I get my Y pipe, hope soon, it will be everyday.

used to be every drive but now, it's been about two weeks. I have been driving like a grandma the last couple of weeks and it has done wonders for my gas mileage.

Re: How often does your car see 5k RPMs and over?

Alot of people don't like riding in the car with me but I relly don't drive that bad. I rag once or twice a day(redline! redline!), but most of my heavy driving is at the strip. I have hit the rev limiter twice(both times by accident missed a gear).

I hit 4500+ every once and a while, just to remember that my max can run so good.

i was looking throught my manual couple of days ago and i have been following the suggested grear change speeds and when i do that i dont even see 2K and my gas millage has gone up too.
1-2 13 MPH
2-3 16 MPH
3-4 27 MPH
4-5 36 MPH

But i still take it up to 5k once every few days when i get a red light and a long staight away with no trafic, just to remind myself of what this engine can do.

being that i have auto, i normally hit past 5k rpm in first gear and after that stay between 3 and 4 when switching gears...i don't consider it hard driving though....

i alway wondered what the manual said. so they say 5th for 36 mph? i usually never take it to 5th in the city and keep it in 4th around 2200rpm, it just feels safer in case i need to gas it up a little in an emergency, ill try it tho and see how it feels

as for the thread, pretty much everday she will go past 5k

Probably averages out to a little less than once a day. I can go weeks without doing it but then do it 8 times in 2 days if the situation is right.

Before getting my new clutch, every single time I started the car up After reading other post I know I am not the only one here that spends time in the higher RPM range. I have discovered in the last 3 days that there is nothing wrong with shifting into second gear @15 mph and third gear by 30 it is amazing how my gas mileage has improved. I have not been about 3500 rpm all week and it is quite refreshing to pamper the car.I think my engine likes my timid style better as well, I just hope I can continue to be so conservative once the clutch breaks in.

My manual said that it was stressful on the transmission to go into 5th under 60 MPH doesn't mean I listen though and I take mine above 6k on a daily basis. Probalbly not great for the car but hey if it will do it then why not.

Easily 5-6 times a day. I've got 102,000 miles btw. Toyota says they test their engines by revving them to redline 100,000 times and then tearing them apart to see what wear has taken place. If the Maxima engine is half that good, all this hard driving shouldn't be a big deal. My buddy's 89 turbo supra has 250,000 hard driven miles and still does fine.

Depending on how I'm rolling not coming to a full stop at intersections and corners that damn automagic will downshift to second and before you can say "Maxima" I hit the rev limiter for a hard shift back up to third. This happens mainly because I do not come to a full stop and because I have a Stillen K&N Hi Flow set up I've lost a little bottom end torque. I have yet to launch off seriously from a stop cause with those Nitto 555 Extremes on the 17" Momos I'm afraid of wheel hop.

Every time I can!!!

Last night I was doing some testing of the J&S Ultra Safeguard box on the highway, I was doing 2nd to 3rd full throttle runs getting a chirp every time. I must have done 20 runs like that!

I have an auto, so from 1st to second, all the time.

And since I got the MEVI, pretty much everythime i gas it. I LOVE to floor my car.

I'd say 10-20 times I hit redline on a good roadtrip (30-40 mile trip)

So am I really damaging my engine all that bad? I thought redline was there for a reason, and anything under that, provided you do your regular maintenance, is negligable.

I mean, obviously never going above 3k is better than always going to 6k, but how much life does it really take?

I've only heard of 2 or 3 blown engines on this forum. it seems they take everything we throw at them.

The problem is not the engine its the transmission that your killing my doing that. The engines are so strong that it doesn't matter but a lot of people have blown trannys at early mileage,

About 4-6 times daily..... mostly when passing those slow cars that "squat" in passing lane of the freeways by downshifting from 5th to 3rd.

I try to keep my RPMs under 3k...don't really do any highway driving anymore, so I'm usually in 4th cruisin between 40 and 45...

Only time I rev between 5-6k is downshifting to pass...and I usually only go that high if I'm ****ed off at what's going on on the road.
Did it today in a very short drive that took 35 min thanks to farking Omaha midday traffic (where people think green lights mean take a quick nap, then accelerate slowly for three minutes on up to a dangerously exciting 5mph under the speed limit)

Considering that I have an auto. trans, my peak is about 4500rpm (when I'm 1st at a light on a 50mph road), but if I really wanted to I can do a nice kickdown to at least 5000rpm.

Overall my rpms range b/w 2500-4000rpm while driving
