Whats the best way to learn more about cars, engines, etc?

Well I really want to get into modding and doing my own work. I'm comfortable with doing my own intake & y-pipe but next year I want to get the Stillen Supercharger and install myself. I just feel (and want to) I should get more knowledge about how engines work and and the tech aspects to it. I've already read the articles on howstuffworks.com but most of it is basic info. Would a class be best?

Try your local Vo-tech schools. Most of them offer night-time auto mechanics courses.

If you want to read online www.howstuffworks.com is a great site and I've learned a lot from it.

that's what he just said, I have an old auto shop book from my class, it's close to 1500 pages, explains everything, I read the manual trans section after just learning to drive stick and it explained why you should certain things, book teaches you to be a mechanic, so if you have a prob, you can look up the symptoms and get an answer, visit your local highschool.

Maybe I need to find a site that teaches me to read an entire post.

My brother is going to the local community college for Auto-Tech, and I get all his second hand books. Instead of selling them back to the school I give him $20 for them. I've read engines and transmissions so far...with electronics and steering/suspension books waiting for a rainy day.

I've learned a ton! My brother isn't much help though, as I know a lot more about cars than he does...go figure.

That's a great idea, never thought of picking up some auto books from my school instead of taking a class. I'll pick some up this weekend for some before bedtime reading
