My ABS light has been on. Mechanic said it's the ABS computer which is "big bucks"!! I want to know if I can use the ECU to dagnose it. I highly doubt it since the check engine light isn't on.

I just reset mine using the instructions from the org and also my factory service manual. If you don't have one, maybe someone can scan the instructions for you or maybe you can borrow someone's book. It is possible to diagnose the ABS system using the ABS light. The consult can diagnose it further. Try getting your hands on a factory service manual. I don't have have a scanner, sorry

 

If the 4-gen is like the 3-gen, there should be a SEPERATE ecu for abs use/diagnostics. In the 3-gen it's in the trunk near the passenger side speaker. You turn the car on, drive at least 25pmh for at least a few blocks then stop. While the car is still on, count the number of flashes on abs computor. This number will indicate the problem. ie.. one of the abs sensors etc...

The ABS computer should reset by itself. Whenever I go for emissions inspections, mine lights up. The ABS system gets confused by the fact that the front wheels are rolling but the rears are standing still. Once I get the car back on all 4s, I turn the car off, start the car again and drive off. Within minutes, the ABS light goes away.
